Gameplay
Crash nitro cark (CNK) offers you a few different gameplay modes, most of which are part of the Adventure mode. After beating a race, you can challenge the CNK mode on that same course, where you have to find the 3 letters C, N, and K. Different rewards are given for completing the race and completing it with the letters, allowing for multiple areas and levels to be unlocked. There is actually quite a lot to Crash Nitro Kart, and although you can finish the basic adventure and beat the boss in a little under 3 hours, theres a lot more to the adventure, like an RPG.
All the favourite characters are there inc Crash himself Coco Dr. Neo Cortex N. Gin Tiny N. Oxide and N. Trance. All characters have different statistics in the form of Acceleration, Top Speed and Turning. They can either be Average, Good or Excellent, and there isnt any player that is lacking in an uneven amount of skills. Controls are very user friendly and unnecessary to be mentioned in a review, but you can always go to the Main Menu options if you cant work them out.
Playing the game is about as easy as Tetris especially with all the hints you recieve throughout the whole game. There is a boost meter or a Nitro meter that comes into play when youre at a stop position waiting to go, or when you turn using the r trigger. Useful boosts can be given to allow you that extra bit of room ahead of opponents. A nice trick you learn early on is when you go off a jump, if you hit the jump button just before you leave the ground and get enough air when you land youll get a nice boost and go up on 2 wheels in the process.
When you get close to another kart a little bar slowly fills up. When it is full, you can unleash a power which gives you unlimited items for around 10 seconds. This is great for if you are coming last as it can turn the whole game around.
The whole team system works really well, because even when you dont win your team mate still might which allows you to progress to the next race. Its normally a good idea to stick as close to a team mate as possible so you can keep getting the meter filled up for a load of free items.
CNK also has a Editor that lets you to place all the different items in battle mode wherever you want to. Once arranging everything exactly how you want it you can then save the setup as a custom arena to load whenever you want. Destroying items is just as easy as placing them and the Editor is very easy to work out how to use.
Graphics
CKN has great graphics. The player models fit in perfectly with the environment and the karts look very good as they cruise around the somewhat bright dazzling courses.
Sound
All the characters have their own taunts that they give as you overtake them or they overtake you which makes the game that little bit better.
The engines dont quite get as bigger praise as we see in such games as Gran Turismo and Project Gotham Racing but they still pass for engines which is all we ask for in a kart racing game.Explosions and noises that other weapons make are all fairly unique, but theres nothing exceeding the sound display thats worth mentioning.
Overall
To a little brother, a little sister, a daughter or son, or practically any youngster that you might consider buying a present for, this game is gold on a disk .But eventually youll find yourself getting fed up with the repetitiveness of each track and wind up playing a more interesting game.
Advantages: It was one of the best racing titles of it's day Disadvantages: Serioulsly outdated in comparison to the next-gen console titles
's forgettable but I sold my SNES a few years ago along with this tiltle because the SNES had become obsolete. If you have a SNES and you know somebody selling this it would be well worth buying but don't expect top of the range graphics and sound this is the SNES after all. It's a bit cheaper than mainstream titles of nowadays but you can get CrashNitroKart on your PS2 or XBOX and if you have a Gamecube don't bother. Super Mario Kart is on the Gamecube and I bet it's really good. So if you like old skool titles this is for you. The graphics were too bright in my opinion and as for the sound that is truly awful. Dire music blasting away and bright graphics could make you want to throw up and unfortunately you can't turn the music off. However the car noises are good. As for the gameplay that's simple and easy to get use to but I can't remember ...
