What made such a simple taxi game such a hit over here, and you’d think it would be boring for a nation like us don’t ask me why… I mean who wants to ship some fussy pedestrians around a city; it certainly doesn’t do anything for me. But then that isn’t crazy taxi, the funniest driving game ever. Instead of just being exactly what I said before crazy taxi lets you do so much more. But this is the sequel, with more fun, craziness and above all addictiveness.
What makes Crazy taxi 2 so different from the first mouth-watering game is the way they realized what was wrong and how they added new things to make it a whole new experience. What made the old game special? What makes this game even more unique?
There have been many new changes in the sequel to the first successful one and all make a big impact and really polish it. The first change is the new destination that is none other than New York. You see all the sites and some great scenery
that is superior to the lone streets of San Francisco. This is split up into two sides of the city. There is the around apple and the small apple. These two are different and you will probably take a favour to one of the two.
There is another big change in the game and that of course is the drivers and their cabs. The old four are replaced by the new lot which are: Slash, Iceman, Cinnamon and Hot-d. These guys all have different personalities and altered cabs which again you will favour and my personal favourite has to be Hot-d. Other changes include a new manoeuvre that is the crazy hop, where you leap off of the ground and go flying over the traffic, which gets you a big tip. The downside is that you cannot control the cab in mid air and you might hit the walls on many occasions. The best change is probably the way you can now pick up groups of people as well as individuals, which is great fun. Picking up a group of mime artists or Cheerleaders is very amusing indeed. You get quite a big amount of time and a stack of money for taking groups around so you might be doing that a lot of the time.
As in the first game you have the normal choices of how many crazy minutes you roll around in your cab for. You can also choose where to go, being either the around apple or the small apple. The first game gave you a mode called the crazy box and now it is the new and improved crazy pyramid that is even better than the box! You start at the bottom and work your way up the pyramid and they get hard as you reach a higher level, obviously! There are some really fun things to do on this like Crazy gold, where you have to drive along and crazy hop into the ball and get it to go a certain length. Or the Crazy hurdle where you go along the straight and jump hurdles, using the crazy hop.
Sega adopted the “ if it isn’t broken don’t fix it” (official DC mag) approach and didn’t really do much with the gameplay or graphics. It is still a very smooth ride for the old taxi cabbie. It is still great fun to cruise around listening to the Offspring and just chilling out. It can be a very mellow game to play and that is definitely a good reason to buy it and just coast around capital city. The graphics are still kind of the same but somehow seems more realistic but not really changed in many ways. The sound is very, very good and makes the game that bit more crazy. When you pick someone up they say where they want to go while people are shouting and your offspring CD in the car is booming and it just feels great! It has certainly got more confusing and fun to listen to so crank up the volume! The AI is very intelligent in this game with a great deal more reflexes and moves than before. The people seem more real and that makes it more realistic and amusing when bombing them round the streets while they are cursing at you!
Overall this game is a very successful sequel and Sega have really spoilt us once again! A great laugh and I advise anyone to get it even if it seems boring, you just don’t know much about it!
