Is it just me or is driving a taxi at insanely fast speeds through crowded, busy streets and taking passengers to place extremely fun? I think not. Crazy Taxi 2 is the sequel to an acclaimed title which was one of the star releases for the Dreamcast, by Sega. Both Crazy Taxi and Crazy Taxi 2(CT&CT2 from now on) are made by Sega and both feature highly addictive and enjoyable gameplay, and yes, your mother won't mind. What truly separates these two titles? Read on to find out.
CT2 differs from CT in only a few areas when it comes to gameplay. The most noticeable part is the Crazy Pyramid and the new levels. The Crazy Pyramid is just like the Crazy Box from the original CT. In which you would play special games, like driving passengers to a place in under 2 minutes, etc. In Crazy Pyramid, the same thing is in place, the main difference is the addition of 5 tiers of events. Each level gets harder and each tier unlocks another feature. If you do beat the Cray Pyramid you can play as the original game's drivers. When it comes down to the heart of the game, they are almost exactly the same. As far as I am concerned it's just CT with 4 new drivers and 2 new levels. Not worth the money in my opinion. What brings the rating up is the fact that you can have up to 4 passengers at once, making big bucks and getting to see some crazy passengers(Cheerleaders, people with afros, etc.). That said the game did not have much new addition.
The graphics in this game appear to be improved from the previous version of CT. Everything looks smoother and runs smoother too. No more of that really bad lag that you would get in the original version. The new cars also look very nice and I notice the subtleties in all of them. One thing that really bugs me and makes the game look ugly is that when you are driving down a long road, part of it completely disappears. This makes it difficult to see what's ahead of you so that you can plan your route. That little problem is why the graphics got 4 instead of 5, as this game has very good graphics.
This game has a lot of playabilty due to the fact that the Crazy Pyramid was added in. For some reason I don't feel like I can play it as much as CT1. The levels and their size also make it possible to play this game for a very long time. I have also not even gotten half of the pyramid completed, and I have played for a very long time. The game is fairly challenging. I usually play this game when I have little to do as it can leave me playing for a few hours.
This game is VERY good in my opinion. It is slightly rounded on the edges and it appears as though it was rushed to be released. Considering the fact that the Dreamcast is losing popularity and fan support I can believe this. Hopefully some more good games will come out in the future before this machine is forgotten.
