What's a mince pie without cream?

Advantages: Thick and smooth
Disadvantages: Full fat

...about cream? Apart from it is just lovely for the occasional treat and at this time of year I will be eating the odd mince pie topped with Sainsbury's double cream, unless of course I happen to shop somewhere else. Thanks for reading, enjoy your mince pies. Sue ...

Nestle Coffee Mate not just for your coffee

Advantages: lasts long, makes my coffee smooth and delicious
Disadvantages: none

...choose, but as I trust Nestle products I decided to buy this one. At the end of my review I will share the recipe of this wonderful milk-loaf. Unfortunately I have no photos, but next time I bake it I will make some photos and I’ll enclose. So back to this great product, I tried it in coffee as well. It has very nice texture. Some of the milk powders collect moisture from the air and become sticky. This won’t happen to Coffee Mate, or at least not ...
...is a friendly price. Nestle apart this Original Coffee mate product manufactures also Virtually Fat Free version, Coffee Mate Latte Creations Double Choca Mocha, Coffe Mate Latte Creations Classic. I have to admit, I haven't tried these ones as I used only half of it. I need to put only one teaspoon into my coffee and 2 spoons into my buns, so it lasts long. If you read my review on Saeco coffee maker, you know that I’m a coffee addict, but I drink ...

Is it cream on your strawberries?

Advantages: long life
Disadvantages: not quite real dairy double cream

Elmlea Double cream substitute is a unilever product. I have bought this several times over the past years. It has been available since 1984. One of the reasons I buy this substitute cream is that it lasts a long time, unopened in the fridge it lasts about 8 weeks, opened lasts a 5 days so ideal to keep there just in case you need it. You can buy this in many supermarkets / convenience stores , in Tesco's it costs 67p for a284ml tub .As well as ...
...too. Elmlea cream comes in a tub that is white with blue writing and design on it. and a picture of a strawberry. Open the foil lid and dip your spoon into the thick liquid. It looks a creamy yellow white colour smells well "milky" If you wish you could pour this straight onto your strawberries or you can whip it. If you wish you can cook with it. I am not a great lover of cream poured over pies or fruit but I do like some whipped on my scones and ...

Review of Elmlea Double Cream Substitute

A single cream substitute

Advantages: Lower fat than cream
Disadvantages: Status

...for breakfast they switched to Elmlea single as a substitute for cream with fruit for desert (especially on Sundays). Today mum brought some around as a special treat to remind me of old times. It was the start of August the use by date is 07/October/2006. It does not recommend freezing and eat within 5 days of opening. THE PRODUCT My 284 ml pot (10 floz) came in about 4" high x 2" wide. It had a silver foil top that peals off (white and blue in ...
...The package also compares Elmlea with cream, it comes out higher in energy content, sugars, fibre. With about a third of the saturated fat. In terms of a Daily Recommended Allowance Elmlea satisfies very little, so it would have to be considered a luxury item. MORE ADVICE describes it as perfect for pouring (it is) cooking and coffee. There is a careline free at 0800 137592 Mon - Fri 8am - 8pm. You can also obtain a free recipe book from this ...

Review of Elmlea Single Cream Substitute

Half fat, full taste!

Advantages: Fantastically versatile, tasty, good value
Disadvantages: Although it is 50% fat free, it is still 15% fat

It is a sad fact that far too many reduced fat products also seem to be “taste reduced” – thankfully Sainsbury’s Be Good To Yourself 50% less fat Crème is not one of these! It can be bought in any branch of Sainsburys, and is found in the dairy section (near the cream) costing around 89p for a 200ml carton, although it does seem to be on special offer quite often. The carton is mainly white and is cylindrical in shape, being ...
...lid of the carton displays the navy blue and turquoise “Sainsbury’s Be Good to Yourself” logo in large lettering (these logos can be found on any and all healthier own brand products around Sainsburys), underneath which are the words “50% less fat” in small white letters against a turquoise stripe. Beneath that we have the product name (Crème Fraiche) and a brief description (thickened French soured cream) followed by ...
