When the DAP jukebox first appeared it was a fairly radical departure from what else was available. A massive 6Gb of storage! Wow! The most anybody else’s machine could claim was measured in Mb so this was a huge leap forward. However, there are plenty of mp3 players on the market now so this model is looking a bit dated these days. I bought a DAP back when they were really expensive (over 200 quid!) and have to say that the only niggle I had was its size and weight (397g 12.7 cm x 3.8 cm x 12.7 cm) Other than that I was an instant convert to these large capacity mp3 players. Battery life runs to around 4 hours with rechargable batteries supplied so it's best to carry the charger if you're away overnight.
I have a wide range of musical tastes so the 6Gb capacity allowed me to carry most of my CD collection with me when traveling. Minimum spec for your PC is: Windows 98, Pentium 2 200Mhz and 32Mb of RAM – ( Well within most home PC’s capabilities) Unfortunately the ease with which mp3’s can now be copied meant that I soon ran out of space on my 6Gb DAP. (I have since upgraded to the 20Gb version and am running out of space on that too now!)
The unit uses a variety of buttons and a wheel to access the menus via a nice looking LCD screen. The construction is robust (I have dropped it a couple of times without effect) and the PC transfer is fast (USB) and easy to use (using Creatives' Playcenter software supplied) The soft and firmware support from Creative has been good with regular updates available to download free from their website

Now that the price has dropped on this item it should be reconsidered. I currently have mine set up in my bedroom with a selection of chill out and mood tunes. I have to say that it is by no means the sleekest, lightest or best unit on the market, but since these can now be picked up on Ebay very cheaply I would recommend them to anyone who wants a cheap plug n play mp3 player with a decent amount of storage. Good for the kids perhaps?
