To sum up in one sentence: These will take your breath away!
From the moment the box arrives, you know these mean business. The delivery agent couldn't even lift the box out of the van, I had to do it myself. This is how speakers should be - not light and flimsy but solid as a rock and the sub should be weighted down.
Unpacking and Setting-up:
As a direct consequence of the 7.1 design, you'll have lots of cables to plug in and route around the room. However, those who want 7.1 and have this spending power won't think of this as a disadvantage. The supplied stands are ideal when the speakers are placed on existing surfaces (small cabinets, window ledges, etc), but you'll want to invest in some sand-filled aluminium stands so that you can place the speakers in the ideal positions. The control pod is fully featured, allowing customisation of overall volume, plus seperate controls for the Center, Read, Sub, and Side groups. A seperate treble level can be set, which applies to the entire system. Also using this box you can turn on 5.1>7.1 & 6.1>7.1 uplink - not something which I've found useful, but some might like it. Very little media uses 6.1, and its often preferable to listen to it in 6.1 instead of virtually upmixing it.
Sound Quality and Performance:
Essentially, this system has enough capability to deafen you and your neighbours. However, buyers of a system of this calibre aren't particularly focused on it being loud. Instead, us audiophiles want enough bass to give it realism, but not enough to shake the entire room - and enough treble to do the 40khz ceiling justice, but not so high to make it uncomfortable on your ears. FYI, the response range on this set is 20hz - 40khz! This is designed for the audiophiles out there, hence the THX badge is bodly (& proudly) stamped on all of the speakers. You'll be awestruck at the punchy bass (I prefer +6dB gain at 20hz, and -8dB gain at 125hz and 250hz) so that you almost cannot hear where the bass is coming from, and it wont reverberate your floorboards / walls / tables / etc. Perfect for games (many are now in 5.1 for the PC / Xbox / Xbox 360), movies (5.1 dd & dts, 6.1 dd-ex, dts-es) and 7.1 (dvda & sacd upmixed with CMSS2).
Final Verdict:
If you are deliberating whether to purchase this, if you are unsure whether this amount is justified for these speakers, let me put your mind at rest. This system is worth its weight in gold! The cost of the system is well-worth it, you'll appreciate your music/games/movies like never before. So clear, so sharp, so awesome! Unlike many other reviewers who simply love it because it can be turned up very high, from an audiophile to another, you'll appreciate this system for its sound quality a hell of a lot more than knowing that you could in theory turn it up loud enough to let your neighbours know (& feel) what movie you're watching.
Improvements:
In short, only one thing needs to be improved. The remote control doesn't always respond, even at close range to the control hub. This isn't a major problem, as I use the control hub about 99% of the time to adjust volume / levels, etc. To use optical devices with it, (standalone DVD / xbox (&360) / sky, etc) you'll need a separate box DDTS-100 to act as an intermediary. In some ways this solution is better than having a built-in optical-in port, as the DDTS-100 has 3 or 4 digital inputs, and is specifically designed for this speaker system.
Recommendations:
I recommend you pair this with an Audigy-2 (or better) sound card if you're using it with a PC. (I'm using the Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA, hooked up to a laptop). Also: when setting it up for the first time, turn the system volume right down to nothing and slowly increase it - this system is very capable and very powerful!
Advantages: good sound Disadvantages: the sub brakes down after some use
...out of 7. i called creative and they said they would send me a new subwoofer, and that took abouth a month to get. they didnt ask for the problem or to get the broken subwoofer back for further study, so i suspect they know about the problem, i have looked around the internet, and apparantly a lot of people have this problem, and next time im gonna buy new speakers it will not be from creative. but while they work, the sound is awesome and i couldnt ...

I used this product for 6 months together with a Audigy 2 THX certified soundcard.
My conclusions as follow:
Movies & Gaming 5 / 5stars
You will be glued to your chair. It's got a huge soundstage thanks to the meaty subwoofer. Satelites are accurate and precise. THX certified they defenitively are!
Surround and Stereo Listening 3½ / 5 stars
Treble overly bright and scratchy, midband a bit closed in and the sub is a bit woolly. I constantly found ... ...the room for better placement. I changed the front speakers with tannoy mercurys and that cleared up the treble and midband isue.
Bottom line:
This is by far the best PC speaker package I ever heard but don't fool yourself, if your'e looking for hi-end sound quality you will have to spend alot more. ...

Advantages: incredible sound, no hiss Disadvantages: Your neihbours will hate you!!
I have now owned these speakers for 13months and are the greatest speakers I have ever got! The sound from them is unbelievable and I can gurantee the neihbours will hate you.
I had a party in the garden in July and whacked these speakers up to a very, very high volume while these were still in my bedroom and it was more than adequete for the entire street. In my room though the sound was a little distorted, but Im talking extreme volumes and you ... ...wasn't as loud. The bass on these babies is very good, and has made my entire room shake upon testing. Sometimes its a little too much (even for a bass junkie like me) but you can change this easily with the remote.
The box also weighs alot and when i first got them, struggling upstairs with it, I ended up cracking my head on the stairs which was very painful.
Another good advantage with this is even on very high volume the dBa is completely silent, ...

Advantages: The power of the speakers Disadvantages: The cost of the speakers
...of this speaker, get a creative audigy sound blaster. The only draw back is the cost of this baby. For a computer speaker set the cost is just too much but if you have money to burn and want a multimedia home theatre that will rock the house, then this is the set of speakers that you are looking for. Just be sure to let the neighbor know in advance or bear the consciences. ...

Advantages: A good sound card. Disadvantages: no disadvantages
I have this sound card in my computer which i use together with my creativegigaworkss750 speakers. Its really a good sound card which gives me a true sound.I would say there would be no need to buy the fatality sound cards from creative unless you really want to dig into music and experince all the best..lol the sky is ur limit.Try and buy it since the price too is worth it and would give u the best of sound.Do not worry about any disadvantahes because i have not had any problems with the sound card and there is no need to worry of adding a fan for cooling it or whatever. All you need is to install it in the appropirate slot in the system unit and connect your creative speakers or whatever speakers you have provided it has the right channels and you are done. ...
