One thing I can't understand. When a company gives you an audidgy card, and a pair of 3 quid speakers with the power and clarity of a gramaphone. Thankfully I have never been in this situation, but many poor souls are. I'm here to save you!
So, 80 quid for 5.1 s :D :D
How do they sound?
Well I'm using a soundblaster live 5.1, and the quality of sound is brilliant, crystal clear, loud, and incredible bass/ treble/ middle. Watching films has never been better! Gaming has never been better! Just watch the matrix with these babys and see what I mean, ear burstingly good!
Music play back is also VERY sweet, infact, it's almost up to my seperates system in terms of sound quality. Just great ;).
So what do you get then?
5 small looking (but well built and heavy ish) speakers, and 1 big subwoofer where all the speakers plug into. All the parts are VERY well built, it even has a seperate remote control for the speakers that sits on your desk top, a small wheel that turns the speakers on and changes volume. I found this feature to be very handy to have indeed, enabling me to change volume far faster then normal.
Setting the speakers up is relitivly easy, all 5 speakers are the same in design, and u have different cable lenghs depending on which goes where. It is worth reading the instructions of course when dealing with something like this. Checking the audio settings of your soundcard helps too, ensuring it is set in to 6 speaker mode.
For gaming, playing games like IL2 Sturmovik is incredible, hearing the plane rattle around you, bullets arking past, wind, flak, it's just perfect. The bass is can be set to thundering levels, and while it can break up (at daft volumes) I have never had a problem. Alot of newer games use EAX too such as unreal 2, and these speakers are fanstastic for this.
Buying these and a decent sound card are a must, don't stand for the rubbish that most companies like to give you! If you don't want to spend so much, and can live with em, I use Sony MDR-EX70LP Fontopia Headphones, they are perfect and offer far better sound quality then even these speakers can do.
kev (currently annoying his parents right now with em, apparently 22.09 is too late for heavy metal hehe:))
