For a long time in the later months of 2003 I had accumulated a vast amount of mp3s on my computer and felt that burning to cds to take to school or go out was too much of a hassle because over time I wouldn't listen to that particular CD. So the answer was to finally get an mp3 player to avoid the hassle of buying and wasting cds. For a few weeks I looked at various different players that ranged from small, light, minimal storage, to bulky with mass storage capabilities. The players i had considered at the time were the infamous iPod 10gb which is now 15gb, the creative jukebox zen nx 30gb, and the creative muvo 4gb. The problem was the iPod was 10gb for £249.99 which is a bit much to ask for since a 10gb hard drive is only £10 but looked great and i wouldn't feel ashamed having it out alot. But there was the creative jukebox zen nx which was £200 and held 3x more songs or the creative muvo 4gb £140 and very lightweight. But at the time many sites and shops kept holding back the release of this. So after alot of consideration i had chosen the cheaper and bigger alternative of the jukebox zen nx. When i was deciding on which mp3 player to purchase my views were that the jukebox zen nx was the same size physically as the iPod by Apple and that it had 3x more storage.
Behold the courier knocks on the door and I receive my mp3 player, comes in a very large box which i couldn't comprehend as to why there was at that time but thought it could just be alot of packaging. Once opened I was shocked at the physical size of it but in the end it wasn't enough to boycott it due to the amount it could store as opposed to the lighter and physically smaller iPod. Once I got it charged and ready for file transfer, I immediately put it in the leather case to protect it and because I value what I buy. So before I connected it up I made sure I had the Windows XP Service Pack 1 update so I could take advantage of the usb 2.0 capability which means faster file transfer because usb 1.1 is very slow and takes 30 seconds to upload a song. Anyway I installed the drivers which came on 1 cd which contained Creative File Manager which allows you to transfer files onto it like backup documents or hard drive backup if you ever decide to reformat. Also installed was Creative media source which transfers your mp3s to the music root of the hard drive of the mp3 player so you can listen to the music on it whereas with file manager you won't be able to play music if you transfer with file manager. The drivers were easy to install but I don't really see why it should need drivers, because the iPod when connected is automatically recognised by windows and you can transfer via windows explorer.
Back to the review, at that time I had over 3000 mp3s so i decided to transfer each one to the mp3 player which took half an hour because of the amount. The average time for a song to transfer is less than a second so it won't be a hassle if you just want to upload an album. Once I had transferred all of my mp3s I did the natural thing, stick my earphones on and listen a song to check out the quality. On my computer I currently use Sennheiser headphones so the quality is great, so when i proceeded in listening to my mp3 player the sound i expected would be ok like if i placed low quality headphones into my pc. But my my my I was surprised by what i heard, the quality was similar to my sennheiser when i listened to mp3s in winamp so I was pleased that I could now listen to my mp3s anywhere in great quality.
6 months on after purchasing this wonderful device it has lead me through exams (which i flew through), a holiday with some boring patches and most important of all the sound drowning out my parents talking to me. Everytime i show any of my friends my mp3 player they usually comment about the size which is reasonable since it is very large and it is heavy because they are used to the tiny mp3 players with 128mb storage and not the big hard drive jukeboxes. But once they go through the list every doubt that crossed them is gone and they enquire about the price and consider purchasing one of these fine devices. At one time I stopped using it for a month then formatted my pc so i needed the files from it and it was on full battery, so I connected it and transferred over 20gb of files, mp3s back onto my pc, but what did i see after 20 minutes? Battery Low on the backlit screen of my mp3 player and I was shocked that data transfer had such an impact on the battery but now i know that i should keep it charing while i transfer just to be save.
After 6 months of use my opinion to you is that if you want a hard drive jukebox you should consider this over an ipod because of the storage, price and the fact that it comes with a leather case which the ipod does not. If you want an ipod instead think to yourself that if you ever run out of storage on your 15 or 20 whatever think of what you're missing out on at a cheaper price. This mp3 player is one of the most underrated mp3 players I have seen on the market and it has been overlooked in favour of the ipod. Reconsider and think to yourself that looks aren't everything especially in this case.
Advantages: Cheap, Big Hard Disk, Protective leather case with belt thing, plays WMA format Disadvantages: Buttons feel a bit annoying occasionally

- CD with Software: Creative Mediasource (creatives attempt at a media player - not v good... but its alright cause its compatible with Media Player 10 which ricks!) Creative File Manager (To upload and download documents pictures etc. to the player), and i think the driver itself.
- Very handy leather case
- Amazing headphones
THE QUALITY
I have listened to my friends IPod, and the quality is aweful. And the headphones are also pretty ... ...much more expensive.
The Creative Labs Jukebox Zen NX (what a long name!) has got amazing sound quality, and also its got this EAX thing, and has different settings so that you can make it sounds like your listeining to it in a massive theater, or a bathroom or garage! its so fun. And you can speed up and slow down the songs.
The player is fully compatible with Windows Media Player 10, and you can also use it with 9 series. The CD has 'creative ...

*Another big advantage is the fact that you can carry a spare battery as it works like a mobile, you can take the cover off and take out the battery. I do not know if it has a good playing time as I have not used it. Disadvantages
*It is bigger than I was expecting. Quite big in a pocket.
*It is heavy, weighs my pocket down.
*It's not very nice on the eye partly due to the raised screen.
*No radio
... ...is quite good but it covers the screen so you have to constantly take it out as there is no remote.
*Earphones, the usual story, buy an expensive item and they give you cheap earphones.
*The software is the main problem I had. First of all it seems it is more geered up for playing songs rather than transfering them to the device. It is quite confusing to use and would only transfer about half of my MP3s and came up with errors for the rest.
*The ...

Advantages: Much cheaper than an iPod. Intuitive menu system. Charges Quickly. Plays different audio formats. Disadvantages: A bit clunkier than the iPod. Menu system isn't quite as pretty as the iPod's
I think that in this day and age, everyone has been taken in by iPod's high budget advertising scheme and come to believe that iPods are the ONLY mp3 players available, whereas this is far from the truth.
Through my own experience with the Zen NX (30Gb) I've never found an mp3 player which is better value for money. I've had mine for almost 3 years now, and it's still performing great. However, think about this, I bought it almost THREE years ago, ... ...Go have a look at Apple's prices and see if they can even compete with that nowadays!
I'll be honest - it is noticeably clunkier than the iPod, and it's hard drive based, so it's not one to go out jogging with or you'll wreck the drive. But it sounds great (The EAX is an awesome feature)
The battery drains slightly quicker with EAX on, but it's definitely worth it. The Zen also supports multiple file types, handy for some, but I'm not that much ...

Advantages: Memory, Reliability, battery life and Cost Disadvantages: Size, Weight and Scroll button
After reading many reviews about whether to purchase an iPod or Zen NX, I decided upon the Zen. I found the iPod somewhat overpriced for its limited extra features. The features of the Zen can easily match those found on the iPod; however its size and weight are significant drawbacks on its practicality. Its use during activities is limited due to bulk, the thin metal cover is vulnerable to dents and falling off!
The battery life is far superior ... ...iPods 10. and its reliability also, not a single problem unlike many apple mp3 players.
There is an absence of modern design features such as touch sensitive scroll, the small button located on the side is often awkward to use however the updated zen touch looks to have improved this.
If you are looking to buy a sensibly priced jukebox for personal, non active use then the 30GB memory, reliability and good battery life for the Zen NX's price make ...

...be between apple's IPOD AND Creative Jukeboxes.
I personally have an ipod but have test this quite alot to help me help customers decide and i have found that this can also play .wav and .wma (which are types of audio files) whereas the ipod cant which is a plus at times. I had a few problems installing this due to driver conflictions on my pc with some other drivers on my pc, but with the help of the fantastically prepared instructions i was able ... ...to be really easy to use in regards to sending music to it. Although i did find that it was heavier than the ipod as i kept having to pull my pants up a bit after walking around. But that didnt put me off this thing. The quality of sound produced by the headphones was fantastic and there were lots of equalizer settings to play around with which is always fun.
I easily got 200 albums onto it during my testing process and i was only 8gig into it. It ...
