Advantages Cheap, Dolby 5.1
Disadvantages utilities provided are a little poor
When I first plugged in my Live! player sound card and the 5.1 speakers with it I was scared. Quite shocked really at the amazing quality of the system. It out performs most of the DVD's etc. that I play through it. This card provides a very good way to get into the world that is Dolby 5.1This systems quality is excellent, when playing anything encoded with Dolby sound I get taken away with the whole experience, when set up correctly it is a great basis for a home cinema system.
Unless you are a professional musician, in which case you will want all sorts of other facilities, this card is the one for you. It brings your computer to life. The real question is whether your computer is good enough to unlock its full potential. For an gamer the 3D positional sound is excellent and really gives you an edge over mere stereo sound. Also it utilises EAX which adds "textures" to the sounds. It means that a sound has real depth and quality to it. Its tembre is really captured and so what ever you are into whether it be hearing echoing footsteps in corridors or a real feeling of you favourite piece of Rachmaninov being played in your own personal concert hall this system has it all.
