This review is about the Creative Muvo V100 mp3 player.

I had a Creative Muvo mp3 player for around about two years and then it broke in January just gone. I was quite upset as I was really happy with that mp3 player however I knew there was nothing that I could do but buy a new one. With getting a new job a few months earlier I had a lot of money spare and wondered whether to get a 30GB ipod like we just got for the family or not. The sound on the ipods are beautiful and I was really tempted to get one, however when I had a think about the problem, I realized it is a lot of money to be paying for something I don’t use all the time.
So I looked to my good old faithful Creative. I was happy with the mp3 players they produce and thought ill get another one instead of getting the ipod. Right I was to do so! I looked in Argos and saw their range and picked out one similar to my old one but a few models on, it was £35 and was 1GB. I decided to purchase it in the hope that the mp3 players sounded better than the previous models (it wasn’t that they were bad, but I expected the quality of music to have upgraded with the competition getting better).
I looked on the back of the box and looked at the features and benefits. Here is a quick list of them: Lyrics display support, MP3/WMA player, LCD screen with blue backlight, Voice recorder, 4 preset EQ settings, Reversible LCD for left/right handed operation, Up to 18 hours of continuous playback. When I saw this list I thought that only a few little things had been added in to this mp3 player from my earlier model. I was quite disappointed but thought ‘well I was happy with my last one, why not this one?’

The first thing that you should do is set up the software you receive with the mp3 player. To do this, insert the installation CD into your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive. The CD should start automatically but if it doesn’t just go into my computer and select the drive. From there you need to follow the on screen instruction and when prompted, restart the computer. When you restart the computer you can follow the product registration instruction on screen but you will need an internet connection to do this. After this you should be prompted to connect your player to your computer’s USB port and you should be up and running with the computer. This is a very easy and quick (depending on the speed of your computer) process and it also helps as you have software to guide you. This was one thing I did not get with the older model and was quite impressed you now have extra support.

Once you have connected the mp3 player to the computer, the next job is to copy your audio and/or data files from your computer. You will need to go into your “My Computer” and select the drive, once you are in the drive all you need to do is open up your music folder in another browser/window, choose the music and/or data you wish to copy and then paste it over to the drive. (Tip for those who do not know: here is a quick way to copy and paste the files you want over to your drive. Simply highlight the files you want to copy, press Control + C, go to the drive and press Control + P.)

When you have copied your files across you are now up and running and able to listen to your music, however whilst you are connected to the computer, you may as well look at the lyrics editor and possibly set it up if you wish. You have a few options on how to set up the lyrics for your songs. The first option is to (within the software) choose your song and select the edit lyrics option, this will allow you to add in or edit any lyrics you like for that song. That is provided you know the song and don’t just hum along with the song, like we all used to once upon a time =]. The second option is synchronize lyrics and songs, so if you have any lyrics loaded onto your drive then you can synchronize those lyrics into the songs you wish. The final option and possibly the easiest is to go on the internet, find a lyrics site and find your song. When you have found the lyrics for your song, copy them into a notepad .txt file and save the file. Go into the Muvo software and ‘import’ the .txt file and associate it with your song.

Once you have done what you wish with the songs and lyrics, you now need to disconnect the drive. To do this you need to open your taskbar and select the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon and then select the drive. When you receive the message saying that it is now safe to remove your player you can take it out of the computer. It is important that you do this because if you do not the player may not function normally.

You now need to enter a AAA alkaline battery into your player. When you have done this, press and hold the Play/Pause button until your player turns on. Connect the earphones and adjust your volume with the buttons on the underside of the player. To select your song you just have to turn the scroller, also on the underside of the player. When you push this scroller in however you go into a little menu. Within this little menu you have quite a few options available to you these include:
• EQ – This is where you can change what style of music the songs sound like (e.g. Pop, Rock etc.)
• Play mode – This is where you can set up whether you want it on shuffle, repeat etc.
• Bass boost – In this option you can choose to have extra bass on, this is quite a nice option depending on the type of music is and your preferences.
• Delete – This is where you can delete tracks from your device without having to connect it up to the computer.
• Settings – This is where you can adjust the players many settings such as display settings, background lights, language settings etc. This is also where you enable the lyrics display on your mp3 player.
• Microphone – This is the mode which enables you to record any voice files you would like.
• Recorded tracks – This is the mode which allows you to play back any recorded voice files.
With all of these options you will be able to do many things, most of which you will not use, but they are there as a nice touch should you want to use them.

Sound
The sound of this mp3 player is very good. I was actually pleasantly surprised, I knew it would not be up to the standards of an ipod (which it isn’t) however I expected a very nice, smooth playing sound. It is definitely this and with the extra bass option, it sounds great, definitely worth the money.

Instructions
The instructions in the manual for this digital player are very brief, there are many languages which is nice, however the instructions are lacking. The instructions have the basics of using the mp3, connecting and disconnecting the device from the computer, using the lyrics editor but I do think that more instructions are needed in case of any problems. The instructions do not give support if there are problems however on the CD there is some information and there are contact numbers on there for customer support.

Appearance
The player looks like its older models and is a very nice design I think, it allows you to just plug into a computer, which is handy if you are at school, college or work and need to transfer or keep hold of work/data. This model looks very clean as it is very white when you buy it and looks very presentable (of course this will attract dirt easily but can be cleaned to look nice and presentable again).

Usability
The player is very simple to use, even to those customers who are not very good with computers. This is due to your just having to insert the device into the computer, copy and paste and you are good to go.

Value for money
This mp3 player is fantastic quality for money. When I bought it in January just gone it was £35 from Argos. Some may think that this is a lot of money, and may well be to someone but I have to say if you need a cheap mp3 player look no further than this one. It has great features, the sound is very nice, the usability is excellent and there is even software to help you set up your player. It is definitely considered a bargain in my mind.

Closing Comments
I recommend this mp3 player to anyone who needs a new one or is looking to upgrade an old mp3 player but doesn’t have much money. Sure they are not as good as ipods in quality but they are very good and a lot cheaper, which makes it a very suitable choice. I love mine as I don’t use it all the time but when I do I enjoy the quality and array of things I can do on it.

Thank you,
