I purchased a Creative Zen Stone MP3 player last year. I'm not big on gadgets and don't really listen to music much, other than when driving in my car, but I was going on holiday and wanted something to listen to on the journey and also at the beach and by the pool.
Therefore, I didn't want to spend a fortune on an MP3 player that was, in all likelihood, going to get two weeks use out of and then be thrown in a draw somewhere. I found this product for around £25 on play.com, which was about my price range. I purchased this in black, but it is also available in white, pink, red, blue and green.
It came in a small box, together with headphones, instructions and a short USB connection for attaching to the computer to download & charge. I also purchased a plug to use to charge this whilst on holiday, as I wouldn't be near a computer. The MP3 player itself looked really smart, it was a glossy black in colour and really small and thin, very lightweight - it would easily fit comfortably in a pocket. It's a simple design with one round push button on the front to play, pause and skip tracks. There's a slide control for volume on the side. There is also the function to shuffle tracks so that they are played in a random order.
I had trouble at first following the instructions on how to actually put my music onto the player - you need to download an application from their website. I didn't find the instructions on how to do this particularly clear, but once you have worked out what you are doing, it's pretty quick and simple.
The MP3 is really simple to operate and the music is really clear and of good quality. The volume goes up pretty high and, as the button is easily knocked, you have to be careful with this. The battery lasts about 10 hours before it needs recharging, so you can easily get a good day's use out of it.
The only thing that I find annoying is that if you charge this up with the headphones in you can hear the music - there is no way to turn it off, so you have to remember to disconnect the headphones before charging.
