I purchased the creative zen micro 5gb about a year ago. I chose it over an ipod mini because of the fm radio, the extra gigabyte of memory and the fact that the battery is more easily replacable than the ipod. I have been very impressed with the sound quality and the ease of navigation through the menus.

Songs can be browsed by artist, album, or genre. Also it is possible to create a playlist of your favourite songs, which can be brought up straight from the main menu. This a very useful feature, as it allows songs by different artists to be played consecutively, without having to browse through menus inbetween tracks.

The player is small and sleek, and looks good, especially when the light is on. The screen light is also helpful, and the time it stays lit for can be changed, to help conserve battery power. The battery life is good, around 7 or 8 hours, and has not decreased much since i bought the player. With spare batteries availiable quite cheply, it is also possible to have 1 spare, to effectively double playing time.

The zen micro is also quite tough and durable for a small electric device. I have been jogging with mine several times and although i would not reccommend frequent use when jogging, my player has had no problems at all.

The controls can be dificult at first but after a short while it becomes easy to navigate through the 2500 songs that it is possible to store on the zen micro. I find the layout of the controls very good, and the vertical scroll up/down button allows for quick but precise browsing.

The sound quality is very good, although I would reccommend buying some good quality headphones, as the ones provided are not the best. I bought some sony ones for less than £10 and could not be happier with the quality of the sound.

Overall, this player is definately worth buying, and is a good rival to the ipod. The fm radio feature is useful and you will be able to easily navigate through over 2000 songs, which can be heard in great quality.
