The Muzaic Quilt -------------------- I've played with many MP3 Players but I've grown to hate the Muzaic quilt;
the Creative Zen's so called master creation last year has been the film version of 'The King and I' accept not as shiny as Yuri's head. My first reaction was to ignore the grandma patchwork model but I wanted to know more. It isn't a classy iPod; yet it does have an oddity similar to three legged cat; you can't help but stop and wonder why? - This is Creatives master-stroke in regaining ground in a very competitive MP3 market, so they created a 'Muzaic quilt'. Hardly an idea that stimulates the juices of the younger market, or perhaps with an aging population the 'patch-work quilt' was to grab our elders from their gardens and start bumping and grinding; if they could work-out what the MP3 player does. I've reviewed different aspects of Creatives' MP3 concepts and now conclude that style is not their forte, so they're looking at the long term market when it comes to design, our aging elders. The problem is the squares make it difficult to read the navigation buttons; not good for our elders and is not cool enough for our younger market. The 'quilt' concept is the complete opposite to what should be on the design model table. It complex matters without reasons. It could be the brain-child concept from some crazed designer who has banged his or her head against a wall for too long; if they can't beat Apples iPod visually lets go down the 'grandma patch-work route' It just so reminds me of a corporation who just isn't going places and have fallen behind visual awareness and saunters through design laws as if they don't exist. The other notion is that Creative does not possess a marketable design team that could come up with the next world dominant MP3 Player. What is obvious is they have too much money and have gone down too many design model routes to be what Apple is.
I've known for a while the Creative Zen Mozaic series is all about re-branding and re-inventing itself; but why? - Their isn't one product model that stands out from the rest that has done wonders for Creatives brand. We all know of the brand because they produce huge amount of products right across the board. It isn't by their unique clever design models for the portable media player. The MP3 market is as fickle as an eight year old child, but the answer is not plowing in loads of money into a Musaic quilt MP3 player.
All Zen series portable media players have great graphics that have been visually enhanced by HD technology. The audio is notably the best in the market-place, yet the hardest part that Creative stumble over is their incompetent design concepts. I've never bought a creative product on design alone; it is always for their sheer quality of its audio and knowledge of DAB receptors. They really are of good quality and very reliable.
Creative Zen's Mozaic quilt ---------------------------------- I was disappointed to read that review publisher 'computeractiv' had rated this PMP quite highly for its branding 'quilt' model. They claim that the "The Mozaic spelt with a 'Z' makes it really trendy and cool". - I don't relate to the 'Z' hype at all. It doesn't make a jot of difference, it is still a notable dud in the walks of design recognition; it has failed miserably. - The shaded squared colours are a eye sore and detracts from the navigation symbols that are on the squares themselves; another own goal I feel.
What is good as said previously is the array of audio formats that exist on the Mozaic; the playback modes are available in MP3, WMA, WAV and Audible formats; graphics are viewed in JPEG format. There is a crazy voice recorder option for dictating or for just reminding your-self 'what the navigation buttons do, perfect for one of our elders to scare themselves with.
2GB of Mozaic storage ---------------------------- The storage space is more than able to play over 10000 MP3 audio tracks. The transfer rates are quicker due to the fast USB transfer fast - track Windows music browser software. The Creative lacks the number of downloads that we the MP3 public have been getting use to. Hence, that there are not so many features available as the iPod. Creative will be improving this conundrum I'm sure by next year as the demand for downloadable data will become even more apparent, giving more options for users and of course better wireless connectivity.
