I received this mp3 player as a gift from my father 2 years ago. The packaging was a bit of a letdown because it was just a plastic shell containing the player, instructions, charger etc. Apart from that I was really happy with it.
First things first, I'll describe the player itself. It is quite simply designed - the front of the player is white with silver buttons (Back, Menu, Random, Rewind/Previous Song, Play/Pause, and Forward/Next Song) It also contains a touchpad which you can use to scroll through songs. On the left side of the player there are three buttons - one is the on/off button and the other two are volume buttons. There is also a reset button. The right side of the player contains a small port where you put the charger. At the top of the player there is 2 headphone sockets (one standard, the other I'm not sure of), a USB port, and a button which you slide to lock the player. I found the lock button particularly handy when listening to music while exercising or cleaning, as sometimes you catch the front buttons and it moves on to another song.
When you first turn the player on the screen shows the creative logo and then the last song you were listening to. The menu contains 5 options:
- Music Library - Now Playing - Play Mode - Settings - Information
The music library option contains all the music you have loaded onto the player sectioned alphabetically by artist, album, or genre (your choice). It also contains playlists, albums, or recordings you have loaded onto the player. The now playing option is fairly obvious (!) and the play mode option contains six options for you to play your music which are Normal, Repeat Track, Repeat All, Shuffle, Shuffle Repeat, and Track Once. The settings option contains 9 basic settings :
- Owner - Eq settings (You can set this to Pop, Rock, Jazz etc). - Date & Time. - Backlight Time (You can set this to a range of options from Off to 30sec). - Contrast - 0% to 100%. - Idle Shutdown (A range of times from Off to 30min) - Touchpad (This is where you set how the scroller down the middle responds to touch). - Language. - Reset Settings.
The Information option shows you the statistics about the player for example how many albums it contains, how many songs it currently holds, and the version of software that it is running.
The software that comes with the player is pretty easy to figure out. You upload your songs into the Creative mediasource player's music library. From there, when you connect your player via usb you can just drag and drop the songs from the music library to the player and vice versa. You can also create playlists and rip cd's. The only disadvantage I have found when using this player is that sometimes the software doesn't detect the player but usually just reconnecting the player solves this problem.
The headphones that come with the player are fine in terms of sound quality but don't last very long (Mine lasted about 3 months, but you can get a new pair on ebay for about a pound!)
The durability of this player is excellent. I dropped this player by accident onto my kitchen floor and a few times onto carpet and it still works perfectly fine.
Overall I would definetaly reccommend this player!

I have one of these with the bigger hard drive. I also have a Zen Xtra (60GB) which has a replaceable rechargeable battery. I'm not too keen on the Zen's touchpad (but I'm getting old now!!) I have never tried the offered headphones but use either machine with a pair of BOSE quietcomfort 2. You won't want anything else!
