I bought a creative zen 4GB because i wanted a good quality mp3 player, which held a decent amount of music, but i wasnt particularly bothered about getting an iPod, because i think theyre a bit overpriced. i chose the 4GB because i dont have loads of music, but wanted something which held a decent amount.
What i really liked about the Zen V when i was looking to buy something was its clear screen, which is a feature of the iPod which i like, and i also think its quite well priced.
when i got the Zen, i wasn´t disappointed! it looks good, its small, lightweight, and very easy to carry around. A lot of my friends who have iPods complain that they scratch easily, but ive had my zen nearly 2 months, and its taken a few knocks and is well used, but still looks like new.
It comes with head phones, but they have foam bits on them, which i dont really like, but i took them off and now they´re ok. They still dont stay in my ears very well though, but that could just be me! some people may prefer to buy different ones.
The actual mp3 itself is easy to use, its all fairly self explanatory. It comes with its own software, but once I´d loaded that I found that it actually syncs really easily with Windows Media Player, which was great for me because all my music is in that. Just be careful you dont do what I did and sync it with its own software before realising it syncs with media player, otherwise you end up with 2 of everything!
The ability to put pictures on it is a nice touch, though i can say it´ll be something i´ll really use. What it is good for though is being able to use your own picture as a background, rather than the ones that come with the player.
I like all the functions on the Zen V, its easy to search for tracks and albums, though the buttons could do with being not quite so stiff. In the DJ section i particularly like the most popular and rarely heard playlists, whcih lets you listen to a random selection of songs. The only bad thing here is on random play all, it tends to repeat itself a lot, and some things seem to never get played!
The only other downside is that unlike the iPod, theres not that many accesories available for the ZenV. The portable speakers which dock and charge it are over 50 GBP, which to me seems a lot.
Overall, the Zen V is great, i definitely recommend it, and would say its a good alternative to the iPod.
