The 2003/2004 season has been another tough season following there promotion from the second division they lost there top goalscorer Rob Hulse to West Brom who was out of contract at the end of the season.
Crewe started the season well however they found it difficult playing away from home and there away form led to them being unable to climb the table. they won three of the first four league games at home and this led to high hopes from the fans who believed that for once they could survive in the first division without a nervous battle at the end of the season.
Crewe managed to accumulate 36 points by the end of 2003 and they were looking as though they could manage to get to the 50 point survival mark before the last game of the season. 50 points is what most people believe to be enough points to avoid relegation. Then a run of 4 wins and 5 draws from 19 league games led to the Alex dropping closer and closer to the relegation zone.
Crewe managed to guarantee their first division survival away at Sunderland with a 1-1 draw with one game remaining which means that they can finally enjoy the last game at home to first division champions Norwich City. The last game is sure to be a carnival atmosphere with both teams looking to celebrate a successful season.
Whether Crewe can survive another depends upon the club bringing in better players but hopefully they can survive again.
