A must read for all thriller crime fans! Advantages: A great read - you won't be able to put it dowm Disadvantages: None ...am now about to read the 2nd book. You start off with some unsettling events, travel through the history of the catholic religion, follow the hero as he follows the evidence - all the while thinking "what is this terible secret that all these people need to die for?" The story is basically an atrocity by a doctor and the impact this has on the catholic church - relics, fertility and DNA and murdered children and mothers etc. The hero is fantastic ... ...say that this book has everything and I would heartily recommend it. The Book With No Plot Advantages: It's different... Disadvantages: Not terribly cohesive, too many characters and sub-plots. ...as I was intrigued by the title and the fact that the author was Anonymous. According to the blurb on the back of the book this was originally self-published on the internet. The plot centres around (unsurprisingly) "The Book With No Name" - a book which if read leads to the death of the reader. I thought this sounded quite interesting but the mysterious book is not as central as you would assume from the premise. The other main plot focus is on ... ...of the Moon". This stone is rumoured to have magical powers and is guarded by a group of monks known as Hubals who live on an island. The book is set in Santa Mondega, a town that is a dangerous place to live and one that is conveniently forgotten about by the rest of the country. Another excellent book Advantages: good read Disadvantages: None ...why, and by whom are the questions morse has to unravel, in this complex murder mystery. Morse and Lewis once again investigate and find many motives, is it greed, jealousy or something else. Once again this is well written and nicely plotted with yet another style of writing to stop the genre becoming stale. What makes Dexter's books so good is the detail put into the support cast, bringing extra dimensions to the books, beyond just Morse and Lewis. ... Black Mountain - my idea of hell! Advantages: Bags of suspense, part of a series that leaves you wanting more! Disadvantages: Lack of sleep due to reading it! ...outside again! Not to mention the fact that I was off to North Carolina for a year as part of my degree! I'll explain why that was an incentive to put it down in a minute. Trace - New format for better or worse??? Advantages: A new format to her usual story telling Disadvantages: Complicated to follow in some places Appologies to people i may have confused. I felt that as there were so many reviews already about the story and the characters i would right my review about the style of the book and the way it can be read. In previous books Patricia used to tell the story from Kay's point of veiw. Now tho she has started to wright her books as if a narrator is telling the story. This has the advantage of us getting the bigger picture, but the downside is that it ... ...Each chapter tells a different persons story, and they only start to overlap towards the end of the book, this does creat suspense and excitment but it also can become very confusing and hard to follow. I also think that another downside is that we know from the begining who the killer is. this means that rather than reading to find out who it is we are reading to find out how he gets cought.
