Review of Family Law - Jonathan Herring by VerySpecialOne

Advantages: Detailed, thorough, good layout
Disadvantages: Expensive

This textbook for family law is aimed at undergraduates and postgraduates - particuarly studying law or social studies. The textbook is incredibly thorough, and includes up-to-date coverage of legal developments such as the law relating to civil partnerships, economic aspects of divorce and domestic violence. The textbook covers most areas relevant to any family law course. The main areas are void and voidable marriages, law relating to transsexuals, ...
...The procedural elements of the family law courts are also discussed, which enables the reader to fully grasp the implications of the workings of the law. Rather than taking a black-letter approach to the law, this textbook also looks at different theoretical approaches to family law - such as feminist, marxist and post-modernist. This ensures that the textbook is set in a specific historic and cultural context. This book is incredibly detailed - ... Read review

Thorough and Informative

Advantages: Detailed, relatively easy to read for an academic textbook
Disadvantages: Expensive

This textbook is primarily aimed at students at undergraduate or postgraduate level studying criminal law. This textbook also includes extracts from journal articles and case reports, making it very thorough, as it not only tells you what the law is, but also then subjects the law to a critical analysis by including the views of various academics. This is very important for students aiming to get high marks in examinations, as some awareness of wider ...

the complexities of social work law in a book
Review of Vernon: Social Work and the Law - Stuart Vernon by mad4itness

Advantages: easy to read
Disadvantages: none

Although the need for specific texts increased as the course progressed, this book has been of great use to my studies. Even in my fourth year placement this book gave gave me an overview of specific themes, and the bibliography provided me with relevant further reading, which is something my class-mates have struggled in finding thriughout the course. I would highly recommend this book to any social work student, prospective student, or indeed anyone ... Read review

Guv'nor should Govern your reading
Review of The Guv'nor - Lenny McLean by iamasadlittleboy

Advantages: Great insights
Disadvantages: Feels incomplete

After staring the excellent book on Paul Briggs I forgot to bring it with me on what I'll describe as my run-away-get-away so I needed aothr similar book, and I'd heard nothing but good things about this 'un. You may wonder why I mentioned Briggy's name well to be honest the books, and the lifestyles of the two are similar, yet opposite at the same time. For example both were beaten as kids, Briggs by his father, Lenny by his step father, both beat ...
...Lenny was ment to be the "'ardest man in britain"...for those of you who were/are Kimbo Slice fans he's basically doing what Lenny made a career out of (Kimbo's new role in MMA aside). Minding and street fighting, claiming to have had over 3000 fights, a number wich I'm sure is maybe trippled of actual "fights" as opposed to scuffles (i.e. kicking a group out of the club your working at doesn't count as 5 fights as far as I'm concerned). Lenny's ... Read review
