A fascinating puzzle of a book
Review of The Jigsaw Man (The Remarkable Career of Britain's Foremost Criminal Psychologist) - Paul Britton by
TheCrow21
Advantages: Awe inspiring, very thorough, thrilling
Disadvantages: Shocking, many gorey details
...would like to make about The Jigsaw Man is that at no time does Paul Britton spare the details of his cases, though some of the things he has investigated are gruesome he is not afraid to describe them thoroughly and with a strange sense of enthusiasm. Alongside this is his struggle to maintain his own self as he explains that for every crime scene he goes to he leaves a part of himself behind and rightfully so considering what he has described.
... ...written insight into the criminal mind and the complexities behind it without the need for psychological, potentially confusing wording.
You may think this all sounds so gruesome, but it gets worse, this book is infact a autobiographical piece describing a handful of Paul Britton's investigations from his vast career this may indeed be the most fascinating part as all these tales, almost supernaturally strange, are real. While reading i also noticed ...

the complexities of social work law in a book
Review of Vernon: Social Work and the Law - Stuart Vernon by
mad4itness
Advantages: easy to read
Disadvantages: none
Although the need for specific texts increased as the course progressed, this book has been of great use to my studies. Even in my fourth year placement this book gave gave me an overview of specific themes, and the bibliography provided me with relevant further reading, which is something my class-mates have struggled in finding thriughout the course. I would highly recommend this book to any social work student, prospective student, or indeed anyone ...

Guv'nor should Govern your reading
Review of The Guv'nor - Lenny McLean by
iamasadlittleboy
Advantages: Great insights
Disadvantages: Feels incomplete
After staring the excellent book on Paul Briggs I forgot to bring it with me on what I'll describe as my run-away-get-away so I needed aothr similar book, and I'd heard nothing but good things about this 'un. You may wonder why I mentioned Briggy's name well to be honest the books, and the lifestyles of the two are similar, yet opposite at the same time. For example both were beaten as kids, Briggs by his father, Lenny by his step father, both beat ... ...Lenny was ment to be the "'ardest man in britain"...for those of you who were/are Kimbo Slice fans he's basically doing what Lenny made a career out of (Kimbo's new role in MMA aside). Minding and street fighting, claiming to have had over 3000 fights, a number wich I'm sure is maybe trippled of actual "fights" as opposed to scuffles (i.e. kicking a group out of the club your working at doesn't count as 5 fights as far as I'm concerned).
Lenny's ...

Murder in Ipswich
Review of Hunting Evil: Inside the Ipswich Serial Murders - Paul Harrison by
laramax
Advantages: An interesting insight from two different perspectives
Disadvantages: There are no answers
...I bought a copy of Hunting Evil: Inside the Ipswich Serial Murders last week almost as soon as it hit the shelves.
Hunting Evil is written by Sky news journalist Paul Harrison who is claiming to be the 'Journalist who broke the story' - well he might have been to the wider world but, here in Ipswich, I was aware of it around the time the very first girl, Tania Nicol, went missing. I spotted a tiny piece of news in the East Anglian Daily Times which ... ...at the time, I can remember being a little puzzled that it warranted so little space in the newspaper - just a few short paragraphs on an inside page for a teenager missing from home. At that time nothing was said about how she earned her living but, I am guessing that was why it didn't make the front page and feature on the TV news.
Co-author of the book is Professor David Wilson a leading criminologist who is said on the front cover to be 'the ...
