Suzuki Gn125
Advantages: fuel economy, price Disadvantages: corrosion, depreciation, acceleration, top speed
...intention was to by a Suzuki Van Van. However, I took my CBT on a GN125 and decided that it wouldn't be a bad first bike to learn on. It's also significantly cheaper than a Van Van and top speed is higher. Bought the bike new back in April 2006 for £1400. The bike was a grey import - Suzuki no longer officially supply this bike to the UK market. As a result the speedometer is in km/h which is a little annoying. That's the only difference that I am ... ...the bike daily until recently to ride too and from the station.
The bike rides quite well bearing in mind its size. Acceleration is obviously poor compared to a bigger bike but not as bad as you might think. It could certainly outrun the average car from standstill. It really starts to struggle once you get up to 50mph - especially if you are going uphill. That being said however I am quite a big bloke (16 stone) so performance may be a bit better ...

Great for the Ladies Too!
Advantages: Looks, Size, Price and Handling Disadvantages: Comfort and Sound
I love this bike.... I am a 5'9" 24 yr old female rider and this bike is a great fit! I love the forward set front pegs! They give my legs all the room they need..... The seat is not the most comfortable but it will do till I upgrade to a mustang seat. The exhaust is very attractive but also very quiet... at times that is good but I would like to hear a little more out of it. At first glance this bike has been mistaken many times for a Harley on ... ...look or hear the low rumble of the stock pipes it's obvious that it is not. As a fairly new rider I will say this bike has great handling, great response, easy shifting and a smooth ride!
I would highly recommend this bike for riders at all levels. With the right customizing it will be your dream bike! ...

Intruder a Good bike
Advantages: No break downs on the road Disadvantages: After 8 years i had to have enginge over halled
The Intruder 800 is a bike that looks the most like a Harley. It does not break down along the highway like a Harley and it is more dependable than a Harley. My Intruder 800 is a 1995 model year. I had it since it was brand new by taking good care of it, it is lasting me a long time. Since I can ride ist year around in the United States, in the State of Arizona. Where you can take long bike trips and do some camping at the same time, you need a dependable ...

Brilliant, reliable, affordable machine
Advantages: Classic custom looks, very economical, cheap to run Disadvantages: Rust prone, lack of top end power
I bought my 2006 Suzuki Marauder (GZ125) brand new three years ago. Having just passed my CBT, I wanted a bike I could safely learn on, while having a cruiser machine that looked bigger than it actually was. It's very easy to ride. It has a five speed gear box, although you'll find at 55 mph - 60 mph you're sometimes looking for a sixth. Certainly quick enough in town and perfect for commuting. I estimate mine returns 80-100 mpg, although admittedly ... ...it cruises along happily). Top speed is around 60 mph, although downhill on a good day I've had it nearer 70 mph. I'm 6'2" and 15st...so you may well get a little more out of it performance wise. Riding position is fairly low and being a cruiser the turning circle isn't exactly great. Safety wise the engine will automatically cut out if you try and ride with the side stand down. Unfortunately it doesn't have a centre stand. I say unfortunately because ...

I've got a savage living in my shed
Advantages: Cheaper than a Harley Disadvantages: Parts availability
We bought a ‘D’ reg secondhand imported savage last year for £2200 and we are still very happy with our decision. The company we got it from wasn’t as hot as they could have been and mucked us about getting my documents (as its an import) although technically it was the post office and not their fault at all. Anyway... it’s a nice looking bike, we call it our poor mans Harley, (which is why we bought it, you know, shiny and posey)
It’s a single ... ...great because its practically zero maintenance (no bloomin’ oil everywhere) so it stays clean for a bit longer. There’s a fair amount of chrome on the bike, some a bit fiddly, so you’ll need to strengthen your polishing finger.
Comfort and Handling:
It’s comfortable for the rider, very torquey, not fast (will do 80mph on the flat, possible 90mph going down a very very steep hill). The riding position is great, nice fat seat, ‘sit up and beg’ type ...
