<my experience so far> Ok so I've only had this game for less than one day and managed approx one hour game play but I heres my 1st impression of this game.
<technical: hardware failure?> The main problem I have with it is technical and concerns the fact that when I go into the games menu section my mouse pointer does not work correctly. At first try all seemed well, I went into game and saved after about 20mins and off I went to lunch thinking "this is great stuff". On rebooting PC and re-starting game the mouse was all over the place and unable to click anything directly. I rang the technical helpline, they answered very quickly, and was told to try updating my motherboards 'firmware' because I was the only one TD that had reported this problem. This I did with not effect.
So I tried re-installing the game and got same result. I eventually got into the graphics option section (the mouse I find does work OK about 1/10 of time) and set the resolution to 1440x900. This has effect of making the startup logo "EA" a circle on my monitor and also moves the left menu buttons inwards and more accessable to my still playing up mouse. (I have to click buttons by positioning the pointer below and to the right of required button)
So off I go again into the game for a test more than anything and managed to proceed with the game and do a save or two. Note: None of my mice (x3) gives any trouble when actually in game play. (Interesting that you can change the difficulty level at any time, it seems, with this game by going back into the menu using ESC)
This morning I find that when I load a saved game the screen froze. It was only after I tried starting a new game and doing a save and that had the effect of unfreezing previous saves. After further tests it seems that only one save file has been corrupted. At this point I am wondering "Is this worth the hassle"
<game play so far> The answer to that will be apparent to anyone who gets this game running. Its graphically a wonderland, everthing from separate leaves on trees to little flocks of birds walking on the beach and a sea that really does look. move and sound like water. The audio effects also enhance the experience eg bushes russle as you brush past. There are the usual baddies to shoot at and trucks and a speedboat available to move about in even near the start of the game.
<conclusion> Absolutely wonderful experience so far, what a shame about the technical problems I have had otherwise I would have given 5 stars Recommended but with reservations due to my technical issues.
<update> Went out and got me a XBox360 controller for Windows (wireless) Yes it works with this game, indeed its a lot better than using keyboard and mouse. Its also makes navigating the glitch I have in the menu a bit easier. Reading reviews on other websites it seems you do need a pretty high spec. PC all round to run this, especially regarding the graphics card. Due to work have not got a lot further into game yet but the graphics continue to amaze. Did I mention the falling trees? If a tree is hit by bullets it can fall down, one fell on me and killed me the other day! What joy, I do savour my moments playing this game.

Advantages: The most visually stunning game graphics your eyes will encounter. Disadvantages: The kind of computer you would need to run this game at decent playability will cost you a kidney.
