I bought this product a couple of years ago for my elderly grand father. I can't remember how much I paid but I bought it off Amazon (you can now buy it for £11.49 off of Amazon). I bought this for my grand father as he always used to have tinned fruit 3 times a week and struggled to open the tins after his stroke.
When I first got the product in the post I was impressed with the smooth and sleek look of the product. It is smaller than I thought it would be. I opened the User's manual and was fairly disappointed and confused by it all, it complicates the whole product which is a very simple product. It takes 2 AA batteries. There is a battery compartment on the bottom of the product which is easy to find and easy to put the batteries in. As soon as you put the batteries in you can start using. the can opener is fully automatic, this means you simply put the can opener on top of the can and press the button.
It goes round on its own opening the can, once it has got all the way round you do then have to press the button again to stop it. very simple and affective for the price. I took it round to my Grand father the next day and showed him how to use it.That evening I got a phone call from my grand father moaning about the can opener and saying it doesn't work and he'd changed the batteries and it still doesn't work. The next day I went round again and showed him how to use it. With that followed again another phone call in the evening saying it doesn't work.
I gave up with it at that point and used to open the tin for him and leave it in a bowl in the fridge. The can opener stayed in the draw and he never used it. After my grand father passed away I found this can opener in the draw and took it home with me.I now use this all the time. It's great to open cans saves me the time, and the use of my arm. It is also very handy for me, we buy the big tins of beans which I'm pretty sure if I did with a regular can opener my arm would fall off. But with this I don't have to worry.
It is still lasting even after sitting in the draw for over 6 months and now being used every day for nearly 2 years. It doesn't really take much cleaning I give it a wipe every now and again. All in all a good product but maybe not a good idea for the elderly (I think his problem was with the fact it was electrical).

Sounds like a good device, if perhaps too complex for the elderly. Brilliant review.
