A Uniform Age is the Lesser Evil

Advantages: Relative certainty for everyone, protects most minors and adults, avoids demeaning judgements.
Disadvantages: Fails to recognise individual variability - too high for some and too low for others.

The reason I’ve not written something on this sooner is that I wasn’t sure what the question is really getting at. Should the age of consent be higher? Lower? Abolished altogether? All of these are options but not ones – to my knowledge – widely advocated ...

Advantages: It is there to protect vulnerable young people
Disadvantages: It still is not able to fully protect all young people
