Why education should not be synonymous with child care

Advantages: Regular breaks allow teachers and students time to rest, recuperate and develop
Disadvantages: Long summer breaks do create a 'dip' in learning which needs to be managed

Teachers are contracted to teach for 195 days each year and expected to complete another 5 training days. That leaves 165 days when students are "on holiday" or, to put it another way, at home with their parents. Is that too many? In my opinion, no. Let' ...

What is a math teacher's favorite sum? Summer! boom boom!!

Advantages: lets teachers recover and plan ahead, gives kids a good, needed break
Disadvantages: parents need to find childcare

How much is too much? At the moment, most of the schools in the U.K (certainly England) have three terms, broken by holidays at Christmas, Easter, and the Summer, as well as the half-term breaks. Assuming the Summer break is around 5 weeks, this adds up t ...

'School of thought'!

Advantages: A time for families to spend time together. Provides a mental break!
Disadvantages: Some unsupervised children. Expensive daycare. Lessons forgotten!

Reduce Both Holidays and Length of School Days

Advantages: Reduce stress on families and teachers, improve performance
Disadvantages: It's a big change and could be screwed up
