Advantages: Good customer service for a change Disadvantages: None this time!
...best price at our new Currys store. I wasn’t particularly happy about this as I have had dealings with Currys before – I actually kept a file for all the complaints and letters that went back and forth about the TV and video we bought, but that’s another story. Suffice it to say I was not looking forward to the trip to Currys to order the freezer!
Our new branch of Currys is on an out of town site near to Junction ... ...an unprompted offer, not the Currys I thought I knew at all.
A date was arranged for delivery and they turned up when they said they would. They actually put the freezer in the pantry for me as it is a bit awkward to manoeuvre it into the small space and they took away my old freezer for disposal.
Perhaps Currys are getting their act together at long last?
We have a small chest freezer, which fits perfectly inside the walk in pantry, so when it broke down recently we needed to find another one with exactly the same dimensions.
Dave drove me round all over the place measuring freezers and checking prices. We found the best price at our new Currys store. I wasn’t particularly happy about this as I have had dealings with Currys before – I actually kept a file for all the complaints and letters that went back and forth about the TV and video we bought, but that’s another story. Suffice it to say I was not looking forward to the trip to Currys to order the freezer!
Our new branch of Currys is on an out of town site near to Junction 9 of the M6 and it is huge! They stock fridges, freezers, cookers, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, tumble dryers, microwaves, hi fis, cameras, televisions, videos, DVD players, plus all the smaller electrical goods. They also have a good selection of items on display.
There is also a snack bar, with seating, situated in the centre of the store, selling tea, coffee, cakes, biscuits etc.
I noticed that they were offering 0% finance but this was only on purchases that cost a lot more than I was intending to pay. Shame that, but never mind.
We went to an assistant and told him which freezer we wanted to order. He asked us to sit down so that he could take some details from us. I have to say this was the point at which I became rather nervous as I was expecting problems, but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and we began to sort out the relevant details.
As the delivery was to cost extra my partner and I decided to take the freezer away in our car, as it would fit easily enough in the hatchback of our Peugeot 306. When we had completed our order the assistant told us that they did not keep stock at the store, as they had no room and they would have to order it and have it delivered direct to us, thus incurring the delivery charge.
We asked if it could be delivered to the shop and we would come and collect it, but we were told that they just did not have the storage space for them to be able to do this.
Then came the big surprise. Wait for it …… We were told that, as it was effectively their fault that we could not collect the freezer ourselves they would deliver it to us free of charge. I was quite stunned at this, as it was an unprompted offer, not the Currys I thought I knew at all.

Advantages: Great range, good stock levels Disadvantages: Pushy staff
So where do you go when you want a new TV, or a HiFi? I think that you will agree that Curry's is probably one of the first high street retailers that spring to mind, and for good reason too. They stock a huge range of pretty much all white and electrical goods for the home, and this is what makes them an authority in this area.

I live in Ashford, Kent, so my review will be based upon my experience of my local Curry's superstore. ... ...along with around 5 or 6 other retailers (Sainsbury's, Halfords etc), and is just off of junction 9 of the M20, so is very easy to get to, with good road and foot access. There is plenty of parking outside the shop, as well as a pick-up point right outside the store, to save dragging those heavy items across the car park.
Inside the store you are drawn in to a huge space full of electrical Toys, everywhere you look. To the right of the store are ...

Advantages: advantage of a pricing cock up Disadvantages: rip off warranties
...the bargain forum. Seems that Currys were selling the Sony 1070 6.1 DTS home cinema amp for £299.99. Considering this retails for around £500-£600, I thik you could say it was an absolute steal and obviously someone in the Curry's group has made a big error. At that price I couldn't pass up the opportunity even though I already own another amp. So I speed up my local store just after 9.00AM, the store is deserted but they don't seem to have any. ... ...As a store Currys are a mixed bunch. I'm sure the targets for the staff are quite competitive, this always results in hard selling and less care on the customer. Their stock levels seem to be generally quite good but for extras like DVD titles they are extremely poor with a small rack dedicated to the format and not much selection or new titles. Time will tell if I ever have to go back to them, I hope I don't. The £60 extended warranty I was offered ...

Advantages: Convenient Disadvantages: Guarantee not worth anything
...visited several retailers and found Currys to be the cheapest with a wide range of products. As we needed a hoover, fridge, washing machine, oven and amicrowave they assured me that if Ibought everything from them they would give us a discount. I was disappointed to find that the discount was only £5 per item. When I protested however they increased the total dicount to £100 which was much more impressive.
The only problem I had was when the microwave ...

Advantages: Teaches you a lesson in patience and tenacity Disadvantages: Don't get the goods you ordered
...So I went online to Currys (identical to the Dixons website, being the same company) and ordered myself a Sony KV21LS30. No, I didn't have this model no. written down for reference purposes - it's now been ingrained on my memory NEVER to be forgotten!
The order was processed and I was assured by automated email that I'd be informed of a delivery date within 4 working days (excluding bank holidays, and this was the Sunday before Bank Holiday Monday). ... ...the depot.
On calling Currys to explain the mistake, they said that the goods would need to be reported as returned by the couriers and then the correct goods would be resent. I might add that all dealings so far, were unsatisfactory in the sense that the call-centre staff are too quick to interrupt, sound ever-dismissive and truly like they really don't give a monkey's what you want. I expect they're underpaid and overworked.
I was called back ...

Advantages: really good store Disadvantages: cost?
This is a store that sells kitchen appliances like cookers, fridge freezers, toasters, as well as televisions, videos, and much more like computer games and mobile phones. Our house needed a new fridge freezer, as the old one was making to much ice, and we were having difficulty closing the door, and anyway it was time we bought a new one. We chose Curry’s because it was good on price, and it had one that was the same size, as we needed. It ... ...deal, we bought a frost-free fridge freezer and we got a three-year guarantee. The store is big in size, and things are well laid out, and it’s nice that products are not cramped together, there are a lot of member of staff who are willing to help, sometimes you can even negotiate a lower price or a better guarantee. We certainly did. We found the staff were not pushy and were just willing to help when we needed it. To often you find pushy ...

Advantages: Will home deliver Disadvantages: Where do I start
I was getting my kitchen decorated and decided to buy a new washing machine and cooker. I purchased the cooker from a different retailer who were perfect from point of contact to instalation of the cooker and will return. Currys on the other hand well they were the exact opposite.
It was August 2001 when I went into my local currys to look at washing machines after careful cosideration I decided to purchase a Hotpiont washing machine. The staff in the shop were helpful to a certain extent. I was buying the washing machine for the first time as the others were all second hand. I paid £219.99 for it, and thought that the salesperson(con-artist) could have been a bit more welcoming. It was a case of in and out -thanks i've got your money now go away.
I was asked if i would need it plumbed in, as my husband works and is not 100 ...

If good old fashioned customer service is what you're after DON'T GO TO CURRYS!
Let's start at the beginning. In 1999 I went into Currys with the intention of buying a laptop computer. My first mistake was going in at 5:30pm, clearly everybody in the shop was in a desperate rush to leave and I stood for some time until I received any assistance after asking the "supervisor". I looked at the rather limited range of laptops but decided that they had one that fitted my requirements, so I decided to purchase it. Whilst paying for it I casually asked what software it came with. The salesman then replied with "doesn't come with any mate"? What? No software on a pc costing £900? Strange. It's then pointed out to me that if I want software (obviously I do) I'll have to pay £1200 for another model. I ask to see this "new" model as it isn ...

Curry's Electrical Store.
----------------------------------------
This review is of Curry's Electrical Store, Unit 3, Harlech Retail Park, Cardiff Road, Newport. (Branch Number 2230)
About Curry's
---------------------
Curry's is a large retailer, which offers a good selection of electrical and household appliances to the public. They regularly have discount and sales in store. They also offer and online shopping facility, plus the option to check stock and reserve items for in store collection. The online shopping facility does offer a deliver service however; there is a charge for this service.
