Currys (Shop)

After spending many months looking through electrical shops at their LCD TV’s in late September 2008 we finally bit the bullet and purchased a 32" LCD Panasonic costing £500 from Currys. . . In December I switched on the TV and commented to Boyf that the TV was making an annoying constant ... Read review

Him:- Currys says that 28days for a repair is reasonable.
Me:- The TV is only five months old and cost a lot of money.
Him:- Well, if the parts don't arrive after 28days you can claim under our "Breach of contract rules".
Me:- But the parts alone are going to take 30 days to arrive, totally exceeding that.
Him:- Then you can call us for an exchange.
Me:- So I have to wait 28days ...
...Woo hoo!! Boyf rings Currys and they say they will send someone round on Tuesday. Double Woo Hoo. Tuesday, Mr Engineer arrives, looks at TV, is told of fault and says "Sounds like the Inverter - and ....... hmm, that's the only thing Tech didn't order". Nevertheless Mr Engineer tries all the parts Tech did order and it confirms his earlier comment, it looks like the Inverter has gone. "So, we get a new TV then??". Err, no. The ... more

Curry's Electrical Store. ---------------------------------------- This review is of Curry's Electrical Store, Unit 3, Harlech Retail Park, Cardiff Road, Newport. (Branch Number 2230) About Curry's --------------------- Curry's is a large retailer, which offers a good selection of electrical and household appliances to the public. They regularly have discount and sales in store. They also offer and online shopping facility, plus the option to ...
...online shopping facility does offer a deliver service however; there is a charge for this service. As I relaxed down in the evening to watch my regular instalments of the soaps a week before Christmas, I had no idea what was coming soon. A Friday evening all to myself with partner out on his Christmas meal and children fast asleep, I relaxed back and began my regular evening entertainment. As it approached half way through Eastenders though things ...

They did me proud

Advantages: in op
Disadvantages: none that I found

I visited my nearest Curry’s shop to buy a computer; I know nothing about computers at all. I have never had one before so I needed a store, which had a good selection of computers, at competitive prices, and a patient sales assistant what could answer 100 and 1 questions about the computers that they were selling. I did try looking in P.C World but I found that the staff was very busy. The computer that I wanted was not in stock and when ...
...told “ well I don’t know if we are getting any more in. There are a lot of people waiting for this computer but I can put you on a waiting list” - No good to me. I was going to look in Time and Tiny computers but I was put off by friends saying that their computers seemed to spend more time in their repair shops then they had in the houses. So I thought I‘d take a look in Curry‘s. I pulled into the Car Park, There ...

Washer ... dire!

Advantages: Lots to choose from ...
Disadvantages: ... but not much of it in stock, appalling aftersales service/communication

...companies who offer cheaper prices, Currys really need to maintain a level of service and convenience that makes it worth paying that bit extra – however, we paid Currys what, to us, is a lot of money and really don't feel we got the sort service and convenience we either expected, deserved or paid for. We wrote to Currys about this and to suggest that their system for keeping customers (and delivery companies) informed of delivery dates, delivery ...
...what? We never heard anything back from them whatsoever. To end the story on a happier note, the washer dryer works fine - hooray! - though with no help from the store we bought it from. I hope no one else gets such shoddy service from them ... but I won't count on it. ...

...pop down to our local currys shop, pick a tv, arrange a date for the delivery and bingo the rest of the afternoon is mine(or so i thought) We arrived at the store room and after about five minutes was greeted by one of the staff, who enquired how they may help us. Currys - they made me worried

Advantages: I got my TV at last - and it was upgraded
Disadvantages: Chaos - from start to finish

...roles, but I went to Currys with £145 of vouchers burning a hole in my pocket. OK, so what was I going to get ? Well, I had my eye on a £150, 21" Matsui, Nicam Stereo TV - seemed good to me, but even better, at Stockport they had one for only £65 !! So what was the catch ? Well there was no remote control !! So, add in an 'All-In-One' remote for £19 and I was all set. Wrong actually !! I handed over my money (ok, my vouchers), they were rung through ...
...The internal fraud checks at Currys had reported a series of credit notes being used twice - MINE !! The branch told me that I hadn't produced proper vouchers and I would need to bring in proper vouchers or cash or I couldn't have my TV !! I asked them to telephone Stockport, but they said it was for me to sort out !! So, off I went to Stockport who kindly phoned Ashton and explained about the vouchers being printed on the envelopes with Head Office ...

Hot And derehtoB - Final Update

Advantages: Not to the customer
Disadvantages: To the customer

, but I say to them, “pass this on to the CEO so that s/he knows just exactly how the Currys shop in Blackburn is being run.” Never in all my born years have I met such an intransigent and unhelpful attitude as shown by the management and some staff of Currys, Blackburn. It was only equalled by an operative at your product satisfaction help line on 0870 242 40 46 and by your staff at the distribution centre at 08701 54321. On Monday 3rd December 2001 I attended Currys, branch 2239, in Blackburn to buy a washer/drier. The lady salesperson, 006 Shirley F, was extremely helpful and went out of her way to try and find what I required. A real credit to any shop. Having taken my details the lady salesperson directed me to the checkout to enable me to make payment for the Servis M9409 washer/drier that I had selected. “ ...

Currys no worries my arse

Advantages: Teaches you a lesson in patience and tenacity
Disadvantages: Don't get the goods you ordered

Well after a really long absense from Ciao, I'm sorry to be returning with a grudge of gargantuan proportions. Having recently discovered the joys of shopping on ebay.co.uk (perhaps a future op), I've been buying lots of DVDs which will only play on a multi-region DVD player. Which I have. Unfortunately my TV is so old, that it isn't NTSC-compatible (a requirement of Region 1 DVDs). Having been duffly sold an incompatible TV in Tottenham Court Road (we took it back), I felt a high street retailer might be more reliable. So I went online to Currys (identical to the Dixons website, being the same company) and ordered myself a Sony KV21LS30. No, I didn't have this model no. written down for reference purposes - it's now been ingrained on my memory NEVER to be forgotten! The order was processed and I was assured by automated email ...

Currys suck like a Dyson cleaner

Advantages: If you can stand a shopping trip to Currys you're probably SAS material
Disadvantages: you might end with a huge hole in your pocket

to say, "You can only pick something else". As a result, I left with a Hi-fi, which, I really didn't want (Please bear in mind, if I picked a smaller DVD player and TV it would have cost me more money and that was the last thing I was going to do!). Feeling that there was more than one to skin a cat, I wrote and lengthy and poisonous email to Currys customer service about this incident (naming names and placing places). About 3 days later, I received a reply saying "they were sorry we hadn't received the high level of customer care Currys wishes" and that "hope it won't stop me shopping at Currys". In my opinion, they might as well have written back saying "Got your money, now, naff off!? As result, I am writing this opinion, not because I want to let off some steam, but, I want to let you people know how Currys really are ...
