THE GOOD ========= My very favourite thing about this game and probably it's single greatest feature is the way it is made with a new concept for conflict, the wii remote is used in combat with ghosts to first off fight them, then to finish them the player must complete various gestures or prayers which will calm the soul to leaving you alone. I like this idea a lot, its something new for a wii title rather than the recent hack and slash we have been seeing, and although sometimes trying new things can come off fruitless on wii cursed mountain brings home the oranges..... Survival Horror is a genre I somewhat dislike since i find it so easy to criticise a lot of things but in cursed mountain i found that the things that usually bother me didn't. The first thing is story, I usually hate the outlandish stories of survival horror games and the writers get too wrapped up in their good ideas that they start to make them stupid and solely about how they want events to transpire rather than thinking about what the player wants. Cursed mountain is different since the story doesn't have lots of hard to follow off shoots and is a basic A-B where you dont have to read a thousand journal entries to get the most of it. Another major thing that often leaves me cold in Survival horror games is the pace at which the story moves, since the player has to complete specific events at specific times it often means that you end up hanging around dull sections of the game for long times and then being rushed through more interesting areas, Cursed mountain has a really good tempo, it moves fast enough to not get boring but gives you enough time to enjoy the gameplay, a key feature in making a good survival horror.
THE BAD ======= Although i said that i liked cursed mountains new concept for conflict its also really held back by a rather annoying control system, the movement controls are horribly sluggish and although combat controls are slightly better they can still be frequently unresponsive and really cause the gameplay to suffer, pace and story are good in Cursed mountain but its the control system that will make you want to turn it off. This is a real shame since its a nice survival horror game.
CONCLUSION =========== I did really like cursed Mountain, as i say the controls are a little annoying and but the story is good and the gameplay is well accomplished. Is it going to be a genre classic like resident evil or silent hill? no, but is it a good grown up game for the wii? yes.
I would recommend cursed mountain, it's not going to make your all time top ten games but in a time when good gaming experiences are few and far between....i would rather take this than some mini game compilation anyday
