A whole range of anti-bacterial gels have suddenly appeared on the shelves now and this is obviously one of them. This is a relatively unknown brand to me - I think I only bought this as this was more or less one of the cheaper ones out of the more seemingly competent ones [the ones with the most claims :o) ].
There is definitely a use for these. As a regular user of hand wipes, I have always found it awkward with having to deal with the used wipe afterwards. Of course, the obvious solution is to find a bin, however, on my travels nowadays i have found that the bins are disappearing, especially on the train stations there is never one to be found - sadly because of the increased terrorist precautions that are now taking place...
So, these gels are pretty clever in a way, I say this with a reservation, as these gels can never replace the full effectiveness of clean soap and water.
Anyway, back to the gel. Yes, this was the first gel that I have tried and I would say with conclusion that it''s ok;
ON APPLICATION: ******************** The gel is a little too runny for my liking, you have to be careful it doesn't slide off your hands when you're applying it. And I'm not sure if it's just a psychological thing, but I have always felt that I need to apply two applications - just to make sure that 'all the germs are killed off'.... I don't seem to do this with the another brand. With the other brand, it is more of household name and I use their other products as well - so maybe it is just a 'peace of mind' factor...
SMELL: ********* This smells fine, does remind me of antiseptic alcohol and may seem to have too much of a clinical feel for some - however, I do feel that this is the image that this brand projects anyway, so would appeal to those who prefer this.
PACKAGING: *************** As mentioned above of it's clinical image - the bottle and labelling reflects just this. To sum it up, this will look as if it belongs in the First Aid box. Although at a hefty 100ml bottle, it is still very handy and small enough to fit in a back pocket or tucked in a bag.
The lid that goes with this is a flip cap, which is ok. However, it would have been nicer to have a pump top, so that you don't over pour - this is more of a necessity considering it is a little on the runny side in it's consistency.
EFFECTIVENESS: ******************** This is not a bad gel, although I cannot prove scientifically whether it works or how effective this is, I would say it does the job, as my hand do feel much better and cleaner after using it. Although, I do am rather a little concerned about it's '15 second' statement. By this, I am referring to what it claims on the bottle - 'Kills 99.99% of germs within 15 seconds'. It does seem a little too long for me - and the thought of having to be aware that I must wait 15 seconds before i touch my food in case the germs are not quite all killed off does put me off my food a bit...
HANDCARE: ************** This does contain quite a bit of alcohol - so can be quite drying for some people, it certainly dries mine out...
COST: ******* I said earlier that this was one of the cheaper ones in price - it is actually relatively the same, perhaps cheaper by 10 pence or a little more. However, you get twice as much. For £1.29 you receive a 100ml bottle compared to the others say, at £1.39 for only 50 ml. So it is pretty reasonable. With one of the 50ml bottles of another brand it claims to contain 100 applications, so for 100ml of this you will have a good idea of what you're getting.
Not ranked No.1 on my list but a good 2nd.
