Reviews are not really my thing, but I felt necessary to warn others wanting a good hairdresser in London to watch out for this one as my result from the visit wasn't exactly what I'd hoped for. My hair has been completely ruined after an afternoon at this salon; it is by far the worst salon experience I have ever had, so I should like to warn others before they make the same mistake. I had long shiny brown hair when I visited this salon and left with a scraggy pile of brassy yellow frizz.
I visited the salon hoping for highlights and a good cut. I asked the colourist for slices of ash light brown colour without using bleach. She left peroxide on my hair for a full 35 minutes (should have been 20 minutes) and when it was rinsed, I thought it looked slightly yellow but assumed this to be the studio lights. The salon owner, cut it. This was an acceptable cut but it wasn't properly styled for my hair type. I have curly hair, which should have been layered. However, as the colourist had left the colour on for so long, the ends of my hair had split very badly. When I walked into the sunshine however I had a shock. My hair was bright yellow and full of bright yellow patches - it looked as though someone had poured a tin of bleach over sections of it! It had split all the way to the root and was completely destroyed. I visited friends that evening and they assumed I had attempted a disastrous hair session at home. They tried to be polite, but it became a talking point for the evening. The next day, I rang the salon and one of the stylist, who I hear is leaving the salon to have a baby (who told me she had recently sold the business to the owner who had cut my hair) told me to come in. I had washed it the next day and realised the blow drying in the salon had actually concealed the fact that my hair was so badly damaged from being over-coloured - it had split all the way up. My hair now looked a frazzled yellow beacon.
The stylist tried not to show her horror and attempted a valient job of trying to reduce the damage, but even she gasped when, lifting up hair strands, she saw the highlighted colour had bled into my own hair, and there were patches of yellow hair interwoven with my uncoloured hair and the hair was extremely frizzy, not just on the ends but all the way up the hair, and had become staw-like, but for the conditioner I had put on the hair that morning. She asked me "Was the previous colourist busy yesterday, or...." as her eyes widened still further as she picked up pieces of my hair to reveal yet more patches and damage. I think she was very shocked at the condition. The "slices of light ash brown colour" I had asked for were now patches and blobs of bright, brassy yellow. She spent 2 hours trying to rectify it and, despite the fact that it was by now badly damaged through being over-coloured, the brassiness and frizz was reduced, though my hair was now significantly shorter than I had originally wanted in my first visit, she had to cut out the frizz to prevent further damage. She said nothing could be done about the patchiness, but that this would not show so much after a couple of months, when it has had time to grow back (!!) . During this time, I received no apology whatsoever from the manager, who spent most of his time glowering over at us and looking at motor scooter websites (I could see this from my seat) at the desk.
It would have been acceptable to have received an apology at least from him. However, when I gathered my bags together to leave, having had to take time off work to visit this studio to rectify the damage, this manager then asked me for £25, he said, to pay for the previous day's "blow dry", which he had "forgotten to charge me". I was stumped - when I had initially called this salon, they had quoted me a special offer price for partial highlights, yet this chap was obviously trying to make a few pounds out of the lost time. Again, no apology whatsoever. He then backed down, saying "End of the conversation" when I started to repeat his own stylists words, that she had also been horrified at the condition of my hair and said she would "have a word with the stylist when she comes in tomorrow".
I would perhaps not have written this review had the owner of Cutting Edge Hair Studio been gracious about all the mistakes, but to add insult to injury trying to charge me twice was, I'm afraid, the final straw Even an elderly client in the salon told me sympathetically "It does look a bit of a state, dear, but you could always wear a hat!". Yes, quite. I'd wins hand down auditioning as a Live Brillo Pad.
I'm afraid I would not recommend Cutting Edge Hair Studio this salon to anyone. If you are looking for a professional cut and colour, try Ginger Group in North End Road, Fulham, London SW6. They are slightly more expensive, but you can be assured of a professional service every time. I had seen Cutting Edge Hair Studio advertise a discounted price - but wish now that I hadn't, and understand now why they were so desperate for people to visit. The original owner, by comparison, who tried her best to repair my hair, was thoroughly professional, polite and thorough - sadly she is leaving soon to have a baby.
I cannot recommend Cutting Edge Hair Studio to anyone due to my experiences. Please avoid at all cost. If anyone knows of the correct section to move this review to, please let me know. I've searched everywhere and this was the nearest place!
I wrote a review on this on another site and then received a insulting reply to my review from an anonymous new user. To add to the mystery, several "anonymous" reviews recommending this salon - all written within 2-3 minutes of each other, appeared on the same day I submitted my review. Hmmmm. Fishy or what? See dooyoo.co.uk and you'll see what I mean. Very underhand indeed. Hopefully they will have been deleted by now, it was so obvious who was writing them!
Thanks for reading, I hope this is of some use, and enjoy the rest of this glorious summer! I shall....but I will be wearing a hat for the duration!

Advantages: - Disadvantages: Not a good place for hair..
...to say, the manager of Cutting Edge should really think before posting his comment on what was an honest review by someone who attended his salon. Even if it was 2 years ago. But things obviously haven't changed much at this salon, because I've just had a similar experience, and therefore concur.
Earlier this month I "enjoyed" sitting through at the same Cutting Edge Hair Studio after looking at their site http://www.cehairstudio.co.uk/ which on ... ...a very bad haircut, badly styled - in a dirty salon (rickety stairs, 80's hair equipment - the place needs an uplift, guys.). My hair was presumably cut by the big boss there (at least I was told). To denigrate someone for giving her opinion on the treatment she had received to the point where you are making personal comments about her dress sense is appalling. Have you thought she wouldn't have taken the time and effort to write such a review unless ...

Quick review of Cutting Edge Hair Studio, Kensington High Street, London
the guys at cutting edge are the best. i am very particular with my hair.i get bored of my hair frequently and having short hair i always give them a challenge in transforming it. i always look fab afterwards! its hard to find a hairdresser that stops you from wanting silly things (such as pink coloured hair) and they advise you well. they are not after your money and if i turn up and want my hair done and i ask them what they think they ll tell me if they think its still fine, rather than taking my money ...

Oh My God, this guy should have his license removed. The place is positively filthy. I was recommended by a friend but I thought I was entering a seedy sex parlour. Anyway I was given an appointment and the manager who cut my hair was drunk! Yes he smelled of booze and he nearly got the scissors in my eye at some point. It should not be called Cutting Edge Hair Salon, more like Sweeney Todd of Kensington High Street. I will never go there again!!! ...

Advantages: a la carte menu-you choose how much you want to pay Disadvantages: we let the others judge freely
My staff and myself have decided to respond to a bad review written by a client who somehow thought she was treated unfairly and whose hair we apparently ruined.
On the day in question the lady in question came to the salon and asked for highlights and cut and blowdry which we were more than happy to do. The day was Monday on which we have a special offer of £55 for half head of highlits, cut and a ROUGH BLOWDRY. Styling with a brush is charged ... ...advertised on the board outside our premises. Discount is offered on Mondays to the people with smaller budgets as our way of giving something back to the world and it also serves as a way of accomodating staff working at local companies.
As with every other client my colleague proceeded to do a consultation which takes on average 5-10 minutes but in Elizabeths case this took over 45 minutes. What she wanted was not suitable, 50+year old woman wanted ...
