Cyberhome CH-DVD 401

Advantages: Small, plays DivX, XVid, firmware upgradable, multi-region capable
Disadvantages: Very small, can't stack under TV or hi-fi

The CyberHome CH-DVD 401 is a combined DVD, DivX and XVid player. The unit itself is tiny; just 25cm/10ins across- way too small to take the weight of a TV, but it perches quite happily on the top of a telly. The remote is also very small, but the buttons are well laid out with high contrast colours for the common playback functions, making it easy to use in low light. You go to CyberHome's support website and download new firmware, burn this on to CD and insert the CD into the player to upgrade. I like many others, purchased my DVD player from W.H. Smith and once unlocked, allowed me to watch virtually anything from anywhere! I love my CH-DVD 401 and wouldn't swap it (except for a Blue Ray unit which would have a great deal to live up to). Just after 12 months of use however, my player packed up due to PSU failure. Suffice to say, Smith's didn't want to know and in common with most manfacturers, Cyberhome wanted me to bin it and buy another. I refused and after bullying Cyberhome, they supplied me with a replacement PSU which I fitted in 10 minutes! Overall, excellent performance and value... more

I purchased this DVD player last year from W H Smiths for £50, it didn't come with a scart cable so I had to buy it separately for £5. I chose it because it is a good colour to match the rest of my equipment, silver, and fairly small and compact 225/225/40 mm (W/L/H).
