I purchased a Cyberhome 1600 DVR from Asda approximately two and a half years ago. For its price of around £65, it has lasted a lot longer than I thought it would and is still going strong, despite the regular hammering of childrens DVD's it gets. :)
It is well styled, and compact so as not to be too over intrusive when placed under your T.V.
Playback of DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, Audio CD, Video CD, Super Video CD, CD-R & CD-RW with audio, MP3, JPEG, MPEG gives absolutely perfect picture quality and sound, comparable and as good as that of more superior and expensive systems.
The only flaw!! And quite a flaw, is the DVD Recording section. I struggled to record onto discs, with the DVR1600 failing to finalize, or finalizing but on playback flashing a "Disk Unknown" alert. Further investigation on the internet into the problems, revealed these where common issues. People suggested changing between DVD+RW/DVD-RW to find the one that worked best, this failed also. The reliability of individual machines core programming was also questioned. So after being left with a stack of unusable DVD-R's, I now use the DVR1600 purely for DVD playback.
A Multi-Region code is also obtainable off the net to change from the Region 2 standard setting, like everything else with this machine, this is easily done.
Built in features are rather limited.
The manual is well written and clear with all instructions,right through from Set-up to DVD playback/ Recording.
Overall - Cheap, but less than £20 now will get you just a DVD Player.
