I brought this amp based purely on the Cyrus name, i thought it was time to upgrade my old Cyrus 3 amp which i have had for a number of years and was very pleased with, but felt it was time to move up the ranks and get myself the latest offering from Cyrus in the shape of the 8vs.
I purchased the amp from Leicester hi-fi ( our local cyrus dealer) the list price is £850 but because i'd brought things from them before i got £50 knocked off ( a good start).
Cyrus now unboxed and hooked to my system were ready to go. I chose the amp in the brushed balck finish( also in silver) to match the rest of my system.

I was hoping for big things from this amp and i was not let down at all compared to my outgoing cyrus 3 this is far far superior in every respect and much more than i had expected, i had listened to a lot of albums for many years and many many times over, and when played through my new amp it was like listening to them for first time, certain instruments seem to come where before i had never heard them, bass seemed tighter and more controlled than previously, clarity in my ears is key and this amp gives me just that it is well balanced and adds new dimension to music i thought sounded good before. Vocals seem clearer and i felt that i could listen to music easliy as oppose to try and hear the music( if you get what i mean!) i felt music just flowed through the speakers and i wasn't straining to hear things it made the listeing so much more pleasureable. If like me you like to listen to music then this is a very very good amp and will do a great deal to add something to a system but if you like your music with in your face nothing but boomy bass and more bass then this is not for you,( i'm not saying it can't handle bass just listen to FAT OF THE LAND by The Prodigy and you'll know what i mean) this amp adds nor takes anything away from a recording it plays the way it was intended to be just like it was recorded. I haven't played a single album that i thought sounded anything but superb, weather it be Rage Against The Machine or Frank Sinatra they all just seem effortless and easy to listen to.
Controls for the amp are minimal as with all audiophile systems you get what you need and nothing more, you have input selection buttons, on/off switch, mute, phones, and volume control. there are no tonal controls or flashing lights or fancy buttons that don't really do anything, this is how should be.
The remote control houses everthing you need to control all apsects of a Cyrus system not just the amp, buit also cd players AV amps , tuner.( it must use the same Frequency to control the amp as it controls my marantz cd player aswell!!! ) Round the back you have input sockets for the following:-
Tape Cd Tuner Aux/Ph Mp3 Link AV Pre out Mc bus
There are four sets of speaker connectors for bi-wiring speakers. You have a connection socket for the Psx-r( a seperate power supply which powers the pre amp part of the amp, thus leaving mains power to be used on all other aspects). What else can i say but i am very pleased indeed with my purchase, next on the list is Cyrus DAC x and Cyrus CDxt, i'm sure once purchased( for the price of a small bungalow in norfolk) i'll be back raving about those aswell.....!
