Advantages: Plays DivX AVI and MPEG files, Supports lots of formats, Looks good, Karaoke, Disadvantages: DivX 3.11, 4.02 plays slightly slanted, cheap plasticy remote, Doesn't play some NTSC encoded files
...I've wanted a DVD player that was capable of playing DivX files for a while because of all my anime and por...errr....other video files..., but the players cost more than normal DVD players so resisted for a while. I've seen brands such as KISS and Yamada but later came across this DKDigitalDVD-500 DivX DVD player after the prices have dropped. It only cost £41.98 (61.52 Euros) from SVP Communications (AKA Blank Disc Shop).
-= The Player =-
The player looks sleek with a black and silver design. Black at the front with silver at the top and bottom curving in towards each other at the middle, which I think looks really good. The player itself looks quite durable and the tray isn't flimsy like some I've seen. The LCD display shows the numbers in green and other details such as TRK, DVD, etc in red. I think it's very easy to read...

Advantages: Plays MP3, AVI and MPG files, Easy to operate, Good sound options Disadvantages: Does not Play WMV, Buttons on remote slightly confusing at first
...I came accross this player on Ebuyer, when I was looking for a DivX player, as I often have MPG files I make with my Digital camera and would like to see them on my TV without a lot of conversions - making a VCD is not tht simple! This brilliant player lists all the files on the CD - saved as a data disc - and plays them without a problem! It has different formats for sound and is compatible with Dobly Digital sound systems, DTS and even THX! It looks very smart and compact and is highly verstile. It was also under 60 pounds, so a real bargain! I wouldn't hesitate recommending it! I can now backup all my video collections and save loads of space on my PC!...

Advantages: Cheap. Very good performance Disadvantages: Some minor issues with DiVX files
.... The quality is excellent with no digital artifacts being present at any point on the disc.
One of the major selling points of the player though is its ability to play mpeg movies encoded using either DiVX or XViD codecs. Typically this allows around 5 full movies to be stored on a standard 4.3GB DVDR disk or 1 on a CDR. DKDigital state that the player does not support playback from recorded DVD discs in either + or - format. My DVDR of choice is currently the Datawrite Classic 8x Grey and all testing has so far been performed with these disks.
Playback of mpeg files is straight forward. Using a computer copy the files using the data DVD format. It doesn't matter whether the file extension is mpg or avi as the player plays both.
Some DiVX or XViD encoded playback was seen to be choppy, but a minor change to the file prior to recording onto...
