Pentium IV...Vs...Athlon DDR
Review of Intel Pentium 4 2 GHz processor by
cjkace
Advantages: Will be fast when the software is optimised
Disadvantages: New socket format, special power supply, uses RDRAM at the moment.
...cases. Will this be true when OfficeXP is launched? Maybe not 100%, but you can bet that it includes the optimisations and will run a lot better than it would have.
So what's the big deal about the Pentium IV?
It contains a totally new architecture that Intel have named Netburst, which by it's very nature needs very high clock speeds, made up of:-
Hyper Pipelined Technology - basically a way to make the CPU do less work per clock cycle.
Rapid Execution Engine - double pumps the integer instructions.
Cache Memory - lower latency and higher bandwidth level 2 cache memory.
400Mhz system bus - as opposed to the Athlon DDR's 266Mhz sustem bus.
The other big feature is the addition of SSE2, the latest incarnation of MMX. As with MMX, any software that is optimised for these instructions will have a huge advantage over un...

Best blank Cd's iv used
Review of TuffDisc DVD-R 4.7 GB 16x by
smokey56754
Advantages: Thick coating on top
Disadvantages: None
...I go through alot of blank Cd's as i like to back everything i buy (dvd's , music cd's , apps) and i also download a fair bit so iv pretty much used most brands and these TuffDiscs are by far the best iv come across iv not seen them in shops but a quick search on google shows up online retailers, i currently pay £5.40 for a pack of 50 which is cheaper than more well known brands which is supriseing considering the quality of them.
Like the name suggests there Tuff !!! they have a thick orange coating on the top that although is not indestructable is very scratch resisitant unlike other cd's where i find the foil on the top doesnt last forever (eg: sony cd's) anyone who keeps cd's in the car without cases has proberly noticed this too , but not with tuff discs !
Granted theres still the chance of the bottem end getting scratched...

Will they contend with the Intel Pentium IV
Review of AMD K7 (Athlon) by
gadget_guy
Advantages: speed, speed, speed
Disadvantages: heat, heat , and more heat
...who build their own computers have decided to use the AMD Athlon as the basis for their system. The main reason being that the Athlon is under half the price of the comparable Intel chip.
It's now the turn of AMD's new chip. The AMD Athlon XP. There has been some controversy over the model numbers of the chips though. The Athlon XP 1600+ doesn't actually run at 1600MHz as you may think. It actually runs at 1400MHz. AMD claim that the reason for so naming, is because the chip performs as well as an AMD Athlon Thunderbird running at 1600MHz. Some people say that it is a comparison with the Intel Pentium IV, but I disagree, because I think that my Athlon XP 1600 could easily outperform the Intel Pentium IV 1800MHz processor.
The Athlon XP may not have amazingly high clock speeds, but the reason that it performs better than the Pentium...
