Award winning DVD player
Review of Denon DVD-1940 by
sadoldbag
Advantages: Fantastic picture quality, fantastic audio quality, great value
Disadvantages: not exactly cheap, a bit chunky looking
I've just bought one of these. Oooh it's good. Really good.
Here's why.
It's a dead cool DVD player which is ideal if you have an HD ready telly and want to really enjoy your DVDs to the full. It has Dolby sound so is great if you hook it up to separate speakers, but pretty good if you don't, too. It comes in silver (well aluminium) or black, and compared to some DVD players it is quite chunky - about the thickness of a video recorder. I don't ... ...quality is awesome. Really sharp.
It has 1080 upscaling, which means it is fully HD compatible, and a detachable mains lead, which I couldn't see the point of until More Technically Minded Hubby (MTMH) explained that this is a Good Thing as it allows you to upgrade the cable and get even better quality.
Until buying this, I thought it was only worth paying thirty quid for a DVD player, but now I understand that you get what you pay for and this ...

Excellent Value
Review of Pioneer DV-600AV by
Tanks
Advantages: Fantastic audio/AV Delivery
Disadvantages: Who cares
I have enjoyed the old Pioneer DV 626D for many years but up dated my TV to Samsung 1080 capability so invested in new 600av. Wow what a change! This is the best money I have ever spent on AV. I have an old Yamaha DSP2 Amp and B&W surround speakers. Now they dance to both audio and DvD. I played Harry Potter 3 on old system then on new. The difference is mind blowing! Then put on a classical cd and sit back and wonder what you have been missing. ... ...systems and would melt to hear what this system can deliver.
Hey buttons are small it needs a bit of time to warm, up and do not rely on display for info but put your favourite DVd or CD on and sit back and enjoy. You will not be dissapointed!!. ...

DVD Player that will make you happy...
Review of Denon DVD-1740 by
Mr.Freeman
Advantages: Simple to use, great playback
Disadvantages: Doesn't have many other features
The Denon is a relatively cheawp product that allows seamless and flowing DVD playback. It has supervideo playback system and an integrated user interface that allows users to easily navigate the device without using the remote control (if needed). The device may not be that well known, but the Denon range have been an active supplier in providing adequate products at a reasonable price. The Dolby AC3 sound system is a great beginner software tool ... ...options. However note that if you are a more experienced DVD Player user, this device is not the one for you. The price is by far the best advantage and in terms of attractiveness, the Denon is quite basic in design. Overall though, a great product for a first buyer! ...

My Favourite Mistake
Review of Toshiba HD EP30 by
utero
Advantages: Good Upscaling DVD player, HD Titles are now rock bottom price
Disadvantages: Slow to load, clumsy remote
...myself this Christmas to a Toshiba EP-30 player. I had the HD capable tv and decided to see if it was a major difference.
I purchased mine from Amazon for about £190 but with vouchers my outlay was less. Part of the attraction was the fact that you were given two dvd's in the box, namely 300 and The Bourne Supremacy. You could then mail in your receipt and receive a further five titles free. This made the deal fairly sweet and there certainly wasn't ... ...was good to see that Toshiba give you the leads to experience HD straight out of the box rather than giving the retailer an upsell opportunity.
The first thing I noticed is that access to the film is not as quick as normal DVD. There is a loading time that can seem like an age although it's probably only about 45 seconds. Then it hit me, you think dvd quality is great well HD raises the bar. Watching 300, a film created in the digital realm was ...

I saw and so I had to buy... re-edited
Review of Pioneer DV 490V K by
mimicmwb
Advantages: high HDMI, Compatibility, design
Disadvantages: Picture quality could be more resolute
...I got drawn towards the Pioneer DV-490V-K, as soon as the sales assistant saw I had a mild interest she homed in on me and from that point I knew I didn't have a chance. I ended up buying the DVD player for £159.99.
There are some technical terms I want to explain to you now because I may use them in the item's description.
UPCONVERSION; now this is when a smaller resolution signal, that comes from the in-put cable, is transferred into a television; ... ...produced from the HDMI, the Pioneer DV-490V-K manufacturers promised that its Upconversion technology would provide its purchasers with incredible picture resolution (especially on High definition Televisions). I am really unsatisfied with this aspect of the DV-490V-K.
I am pleased with the number of features available on the DVD player, and when comparing expenses the Pioneer DV-490V-K would appear to be the most extensive in its price range. VALUE ...
