DIVING INTO DVD WONDERLAND
Advantages: Easy to use, good price Disadvantages: Maybe too basic for "advanced" users?
...the happy owner of a Daewoo DV500ES DVD player. My new gadget is a slim line silver coloured little thing with all the necessary features. I won’t go into all the technical blurb as it means little to me and, I expect, most ordinary buyers! Suffice to say it has a remote control (of course!), an ‘on’ button, it plays DVDs (also with the usual pause, stop, fast forward etc) and has a display to show the time, date, settings etc. This model is a Region ... ...Region 2 (UK/Europe) or All regions. Is that too basic? Ah well, there’s more to come.
Luckily, being new and still boxed, it came with a little manual for those of us new to such gadgets although I tend to be in the “fiddle with it and see” group of technology users. However the manual is comprehensive and easy to understand should I get stuck anywhere trying to do anything I’m confident it will be in the manual somewhere which covers connection, ...

That'll be the Daewoo...
Advantages: Low cost, no problems, consistent playback Disadvantages: lack of functionality (especially without the remote!)
I bought this player from Amazon 2 years ago for £32.99 - It was a bargain, and I'm still pretty pleased with my buy. Came with remote control, instructions (which were good), and a SCART cable, which is always a bonus!
It looks fairly standard, almost nicely designed... but somehow lacking. There is a bit of a mix of colours on the front - blue panelling, green standby/on light and turquoise display, which (a) makes it seem like a mish-mash of ... ...old BBC computers from the 80s.
The low price is reflected by this, and the clunky buttons, and slightly awkward and bumbling motion of the disc-tray when in ejects.
Having said this, it plays discs extremely well. It is multi-region and has no problems with DVDs from any region. It also plays CDs, mp3s, VCDs etc. with an excellent and easy to use interface and menu selection.
The picture and sound quality are great, so no complaints there. You ...

Denons mid-ranged upscaled goodness
Advantages: excellent upscaling, wealth of play back features Disadvantages: feels cheap
...other reason. I bought this Denon 1930 a couple of years ago, before Blu Ray took a foot hold and before I ordered my PS3. I have got a reasonably large DVD collection and I wanted something good that could do the old discs justice. Denon have a certain way with these things. The aptly named Denon DVD 1930 is now discontinued. Like other Denon products it was one in a line of DVD players in its range, it was followed by the 1940 but now seems to ... ...still a shining example. The Denon range goes up into the 3000 series and then the flagship DVD-A1UD which would set you back the princely sum of £4,500! It looks like it would play EVERYTHING though. The 1930 is a good example of an upscaling DVD player. When it first arrived along the similarly designed AVR 1907, at my house, I was pleased to see the eye catching design. I must say at this point that I was rather disappointed with the weight of ...

An excellent piece of kit
Advantages: Fantastic quality picture, easy setup, great looking player, upscaling, value for money Disadvantages: None
This dvd player is a fantastic piece of kit which looks fantastic. The player was very simple to setup for my LCD HD Ready tv as all I had to do was plug the player into the power socket and plug the HDMI cable into the tv and the other end in the DVD player and all was ready to go.
The player is an upscaling player which means that your standard dvd's will be much brighter and crisper than when you play them on a standard dvd player. The player ... ...weighs no more than the standard players on the market and when I first switched this on and inserted my dvd I was impressed by how quiet running the player was as well as how bright the picture was (my previous player was a Bush with upscaling which I was impressed with but this blew that out of the water).
This is a fantastic piece of kit which is packed full of features as well as having the standard features work perfectly (fast forward, chapter ...

Plays any disc
Advantages: With multi-region feature Disadvantages: None
Philips DVP3310 When my old DVD player died, I wanted an immediate replacement for it since there are DVDs that I really love to watch over and over like Titanic, Somewhere in Time and Face-Off. My toddler also loves to watch ‘Tom and Jerry Show’ almost every morning. I’m not really that keen on DVD player’s technicalities so I really didn’t know what to look for in a DVD player. I was just used to plug, play and watch on my old DVD player. ... ...former player. Somebody told me that I needed to get a multi-region DVD player that plays all kinds of discs. I started my internet search on a multi-region DVD player and I ended up ordering Phillips DVP3310 and paid £45 for it. The delivery was quick. I ordered it Monday and it arrived Thursday morning. In the box *Phillips DVP3310 DVD player *2 x AAA Batteries *Remote Control *Warranty Leaflet *User Manual First try The first time ...
