bought from tesco - better then expected
Advantages: tesco can be trusted for service Disadvantages: quite big and went wrong twice
Bought this DVD player a few years ago from tesco, as we were setting up a house and had a budget to stick to. It was under £100 which was fantastic at the time.
We are happy as it playes everything we need, SVCD's, VCD's & burnt DVD-r's (not that I'd ever advocate copying dvd's of course).
It has 2 speeds picture forwards which are fantastic for getting through the adverts quicker
The play back quality is good and the zoom function is really ... ...is also an angle function but we havn't got any DVD's to make use of this facility yet.
We have had problems, in that a year and then 6 months later it sarted playing up and sticking in the middle of fims. We phoned tesco and they were great, no request for forms, questions or hasstle, they just sent a courier around both times to replace it. Now if only all the other companies out there were as helpful we'd all be happier consumers :-) ...

Dansai 701 DVD player
Advantages: DVD/MP3/CDR playback which is good and its cheap Disadvantages: looks a bit cheap but it does the job
...is quite misleading as the Dansai 701 DVD/MP3/CDR player is much slimmer and stylish than the picture shown on the site here. I believe the picture shown is the first ever 701 model from Dansai and doesn't reflect subsequent upgrades over the years.
I have owned 3 DVD players in the last 10 years and all have been made by Dansai, and all have been the 701 models so I feel qualified to give my opinion on what I consider to be the best value for money ... ...was £40 at a time when most DVD players retailed in excess of £100 and since I have paid £35 and then £30 for the most recent. Each purchase has lasted and lasted playing DVDs without fault. The earliest model was passed onto a friend, the second onto my nephew and now the cheapest model serves me well.
Set up is easy as the player comes wih a SCART cable so it is just a matter of plugging in and playing. The remote looks pretty cheap and tacky ...

Denons mid-ranged upscaled goodness
Advantages: excellent upscaling, wealth of play back features Disadvantages: feels cheap
...other reason. I bought this Denon 1930 a couple of years ago, before Blu Ray took a foot hold and before I ordered my PS3. I have got a reasonably large DVD collection and I wanted something good that could do the old discs justice. Denon have a certain way with these things. The aptly named Denon DVD 1930 is now discontinued. Like other Denon products it was one in a line of DVD players in its range, it was followed by the 1940 but now seems to ... ...still a shining example. The Denon range goes up into the 3000 series and then the flagship DVD-A1UD which would set you back the princely sum of £4,500! It looks like it would play EVERYTHING though. The 1930 is a good example of an upscaling DVD player. When it first arrived along the similarly designed AVR 1907, at my house, I was pleased to see the eye catching design. I must say at this point that I was rather disappointed with the weight of ...

An excellent piece of kit
Advantages: Fantastic quality picture, easy setup, great looking player, upscaling, value for money Disadvantages: None
This dvd player is a fantastic piece of kit which looks fantastic. The player was very simple to setup for my LCD HD Ready tv as all I had to do was plug the player into the power socket and plug the HDMI cable into the tv and the other end in the DVD player and all was ready to go.
The player is an upscaling player which means that your standard dvd's will be much brighter and crisper than when you play them on a standard dvd player. The player ... ...weighs no more than the standard players on the market and when I first switched this on and inserted my dvd I was impressed by how quiet running the player was as well as how bright the picture was (my previous player was a Bush with upscaling which I was impressed with but this blew that out of the water).
This is a fantastic piece of kit which is packed full of features as well as having the standard features work perfectly (fast forward, chapter ...

Plays any disc
Advantages: With multi-region feature Disadvantages: None
Philips DVP3310 When my old DVD player died, I wanted an immediate replacement for it since there are DVDs that I really love to watch over and over like Titanic, Somewhere in Time and Face-Off. My toddler also loves to watch ‘Tom and Jerry Show’ almost every morning. I’m not really that keen on DVD player’s technicalities so I really didn’t know what to look for in a DVD player. I was just used to plug, play and watch on my old DVD player. ... ...former player. Somebody told me that I needed to get a multi-region DVD player that plays all kinds of discs. I started my internet search on a multi-region DVD player and I ended up ordering Phillips DVP3310 and paid £45 for it. The delivery was quick. I ordered it Monday and it arrived Thursday morning. In the box *Phillips DVP3310 DVD player *2 x AAA Batteries *Remote Control *Warranty Leaflet *User Manual First try The first time ...
