When Is a DVD Player Not Just a DVD Player
Advantages: Plays DivX Xvid , supports DVDr Disadvantages: older files may not play, Not all DVDr media Guaranteed
A short note before I start this op, I may get a bit technical during this op, unfortunately its unavoidable with a unit like this , I will do my best to explain everything in detail and provide a review that will have something for the layman and the geek .
DK DivX DVD-339 is one of a new generation of standalone DVD players, it will do everything you expect from a DVD player and if you already have a standalone DVD player and you only ... ...unit is not for you. The beauty and main selling point of this unit is its ability to be able to play DivX, Xvid and Mpeg4 files from any CDr and DVDr (They do not guarantee support for DVDr because there are so many different types of branded media and burning options, more on that later in op). ‘DK Digital’ makers of this unit are a German company so this unit isn’t widely available and I doubt you’ll be seeing it in high street shops for a long ...

Harman Kardon's DVD-49 is Disappointing
Advantages: Best of industry digital-to-analog conversion, especially DVD-A and SACD Disadvantages: The audio interface is sub-standard for Harman Kardon
I purchased this, my first HK 3 weeks ago, being the DVD49. The internal Audio D/A of the DVD49 (analogue output) is the best I heard in any commercial playback device - but here the complements end. Mechanical - Apart from HK's non-conformance to the industry standard 19" wide design, the design of the CD drawer is the worst I have ever seen. There is no damping whatsoever and the drawer runs into the stops at full speed on open and close - this ... ...Audio Digital - All three of the HDMI, Optical and Coax digital outputs render a 1 second dropout within 5 - 45 second of starting a new track on skip forward on every 3rd or 4th track. This is totally unacceptable. All Audio outputs - a very annoying click happen every time a track is skipped or fast forwarded - this is indicative of sloppy design practice on the audio output stages, both analogue and digital There is non-existent fade-in / fade ...

pretty average dvd player for a pretty average guy
Advantages: good matt black colour and good remote response Disadvantages: just a run of the mill player
When I first saw this DVD player I thought that it was rather stylish looking, as it was completely black, with a matt finish, meaning that there will not be as many annoying fingerprints that cover it through average daily use. It comes as a similar set up to all major DVD players on the market today, with the DVD tray on the left and some basic control buttons on the right of the front of the player. The player itself is of average size in comparison ... ...width 26.0cm. The player itself is capable of playing a wide range of discs including all types of DVD; DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW. As with most modern DVD players it comes with JPEG image playback which enables you to view JPEG photo images from CD’s. Again as with most modern DVD players it allows music CD playback ranging from VCD (video CD) to CD-R and CD-RW which have mp3’s stored on them. Nothing really different here to any average DVD ...

Average really
Advantages: Keep your current DVD collection, well priced Disadvantages: Poor blacks sometimes
The Toshiba SD 480 upscales normal DVDs into a much better format that can be watched on a HD ready TV, it is an alternative to the blu-ray and HD dvd players out there, and allows people to keep their current DVD collections and still watch them all in HD. The quality of the player is very good, it plays many movies in a much better quality, the only trouble that I have had so far has been with blacks on the player, which often come out in a fuzzy ... ...picture quality of the player, otherwise everything about the quality is very good, and I have been pleased with the quality. The HD output means that DVDs can be played and upscaled on very big HD ready tvs in the highest quality possible, this is a massive bonus and I have really enjoyed being able to use all of my DVDs in this way, it makes the experience more enjoyable. The price is the best feature here though, for about £50, you could get your ...

The Portable Pet
Advantages: Useful if you really need one Disadvantages: Do you really need one?
...passengers occupied during long trips. Philips claims that this will fit any make of car except a Volvo. Apart from standard DVD playback, the PET830 also supports DivX, MPEG 4, MP3, and WMA formats. You can play compressed video files from a DVD or even a USB stick(either DiVX or mobile phone clips). Unlike many DVD players, the Philips has a wider viewing angle and has a sharp 8.5in screen. The screen does seem to be of a good quality and the image ... ...was also no problem with reflections on the screen. The speakers meanwhile are basic as you might imagine but probably above average for this kind of entertainment device. A major drawback for me though is the rather short battery life. You will only squeeze up to three hours of playback out of the built-in battery. This means that you’re not going to get very far into your Dr Who DVD collection before it conks out. To this extent I regard it much ...
