hd-dvd get one while you can !!!!
Review of Toshiba HD-E 1 by
colin_bradbury
Advantages: as good as blu-ray , extreamly cheap , bargins to be had everywhere
Disadvantages: no longer supported format
..., with the announcement that Toshiba is to withdraw from the hd race for the next format it leaves hd-dvd players in a very poor position in the market place , however do not let this put you off , there is already a great library off hd-dvd discs out there and as there is no region coding on the discs ,this means you can order via eBay direct from use for even more titles , of course the likelihood of new movies coming out on this format are very ... ...and the latest firmware via Toshiba brings it right unto date with picture and sound , if your savvy you can get one of these and a collection of discs for a fraction of the price of a blu-ray player and start enjoying high definition discs , the money you save get be put to one side to but a blu-ray / ps3 when they inevitably come down in price later this year ...

Holy Momma
Review of LG BH100 by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: both formats in one system, great pictures as you'ld expect
Disadvantages: very very expensive, no internet output
Saw this at a friends house the other day - well i couldnt miss it since he was carping on and on about it. You might ask what all the hullabaloo was about? Well, this is the first dvd player that incorporates both blu ray and hd-dvd in one pretty little package. And that comes at one hell of a damn price. My mate brought it for close to £900 pounds and i almost hurled. I could have brought two PS3's or four XBOX 360's for that amount. Still though ... ...of the two is limited in practise. The blu ray works great and looks great as does the hd-dvd, yet the hd only works on the full movie parts. you cant watch the special features which was a bummer as i brought over one of my best movies - Dumb and Dumber :)
Great picture and sound quality for both platforms and you can never fault the images that you see. Vivid, good contrast, very very sharp with very little picture noise. In terms of output its ...

cheap and cheerfull
Review of Toshiba SD-170 by
prosumer
Advantages: good sound, good picture
Disadvantages: remotes rubish. no s-video
This was my previous DVD player that I Had bought to replace my SD 140 that was getting a bit buggy. it`s a nice small cheap player that been a brand name is step up from the £20 chepo players out there.
It`s main selling point besides the make is that it offers progressive scan witch means that if you buy some "component" cables and set the player up accordingly you will get the best quality picture that standard definition can supply (providing ... ...LCD`s do)
The picture is fairly good with vivid yet natural colours and movement is quite fluid. the main down side is that the picture is`t super sharp but then again this is a budget player so fair do`s
The sound is very good for the price in fact I used the player as a backup CD player for my denon hi fi when it wouldn't play ball on some of my CD`s! The remote is a bit dinky and a bit cluttered but the player it`s self is layed out well and ...

Review of Cambridge Audio DVD 89 by
prosumer
Advantages: top quaility spec and make
Disadvantages: remote not well thought out. Cant play VCD`s or MP3`s
I got this for an Amazing £99 (the silver model is £79)witch is good considering It used to cost a penny shy of £200!. forget getting a cheap Upscaling Samsung or Toshiba this is the real deal! the sound is great and it will make a respectable CD player in its own right especially as it can play SACD`s and DVD audio disks. and the Picture though HDMI is great! the only criticism is that the can be some Jagges due to it been an older player. the remote ...
