Review of Goodmans GDVD148 by

Advantages: Cheapest HDMI that I could find on the market.
Disadvantages: It shows!
I bought this bargain-basement HDMI DVD player from Currys Digital on Oxford Street, to play through my newly purchase 40" Sony Bravia LCD TV. The cost was a mere £40, only a few pounds more than a regular DVD player. Currys also sold me an overpriced HD cable...£25, whereas such cables are generally available for around £15. Set up was easy - I didn't even need to refer to the instruction manual. Inital impression was very positive. The picture ... ...a regular DVD player, my only concern being that at the start of playback (when the disc is turning more quickly) the motor is quite noisy, disturbingly so in a quiet room. The noise quietens as the film progressses. However an early problem was intermittent frame freezing - I thought initially the problem might have been a dirty DVD, but the problem was inconsistent, and applied to a range of DVDs that played well through other machines. After 6 ...

Alliechuckle loses virginity on DVD
Review of Goodmans GDVD100 by
alliecat
Advantages: Plays all disc formats
Disadvantages: Average picture quality
...about my DVD player, the Goodmans GDVD100. We bought it at Argos. It cost £250, but it came with a rather nifty TV stand type thingy with inbuilt amplifier and three speakers (including a sub woofer for boom-tastic bass).
******Looks******
It looks rather gorgeous actually. It is silver, and very slim and sexy. It has a black display screen on the front, a headphone socket and some nice unobtrusive buttons.
What lets the looks down is the rather ... ...my advice – give the Goodmans GDVD a miss and shop around very carefully. Scour the DVD user websites and magazines and take note of personal recommendations. If you buy a budget player, don’t expect miracles. And if you want the true cinema experience, don’t expect to get it without laying out quite a wad of cash for a decent sound system and widescreen television.
As far as the price of this unit is concerned, however, it should ...

Goodmans DVD One not to miss
Review of Goodmans GDVD157 by
cornishman30
Advantages: Plays cds, dvds, cdrw, jpeg
Disadvantages: None
...I came accross a goodmans GDVD157, on first view the unit looked modern, I liked the general look of it. The price was £36.99, which is a very good price for a good DVD player. I liked the fact that it was CD, CDRW, MPEG, JPEG, and VCD compatible.
One feature I liked about this unit is that you can play your downloaded pictures from your computer, save them to disc and play them on your dvd player. it plays them as a slideshow, holding each picture ... ...one. You can still pause the picture should you require to do so. Playability
------------
Generally I was very impressed with the unit. The images are very clear. The on screen menus are simple to perform. You can switch the screen size while your film is playing and zoom in the picture should you require it. All the options are easy to understand.
You can forward and reverse scene by scene, or use the old fashoned fast forward or rewind. You ...

Good Idea, but not the best product
Review of Goodmans GDB400 by
jbeiers
Advantages: A compact system containing freeview and a DVD player
Disadvantages: Does not have the best freeview reception
I bought this dvd player and freeview box in May 2005 and from the start had problems with the freeview reception. I thought it was my aerial for a while, so ignored the problems, but after I moved house and the poor reception continued, I realised it wasn't my aerial, but the box is not very good at picking up freeview signals and has a tendency to cut out on certain channels ever 3 minutes or so.
The dvd cababilities of the box are great, it's ... ...is easy to use too.
The freeview capabilities are not good. The box cuts out when you are watching certain channels, both freeview and terrestrial channels - ITV1 and ITV2 in particular. The picture also freezes while the sound continues to play on most channels at one point or another. Playing a dvd can also be affected by the freeview channels - I don't know how this happens but it does cut out on a disc if you were previously watching one of ...

Googmans, Goodbuy
Review of Goodmans GDVD124 by
alexandrapontecaille
Advantages: stylish, excellent quality price, many features, good after sales service
Disadvantages: out of stock
...around we opted for a Goodmans GDVD-124 with a Goodmans GHC-35cinema system.
For me it was a winner. Not only it features what I wanted but has more to it.
I was thrilled to remove the packaging and find the DVD player unit, an infrared remote, a scart cable, 2 AA batteries for the control and the user’s guide.
First of all, I loaded the batteries in the control and put it away so that I could test it once the unit is fully operational.
I then ... ...get directly in touch with Goodmans and try to get a replacement. Or alternatively we could return the whole unit to them and choose another product. That was something I wasn’t even considering. I was satisfied with it and the only thing I wanted is another sub. So we called the Goodmans HQ and the customer service team kindly sent another one. But Goodmans said we were lucky to get it as they interrupted their production but they didn’t say why. ...
