Harman Kardon's DVD-49 is Disappointing
Advantages: Best of industry digital-to-analog conversion, especially DVD-A and SACD Disadvantages: The audio interface is sub-standard for Harman Kardon
I purchased this, my first HK 3 weeks ago, being the DVD49. The internal Audio D/A of the DVD49 (analogue output) is the best I heard in any commercial playback device - but here the complements end. Mechanical - Apart from HK's non-conformance to the industry standard 19" wide design, the design of the CD drawer is the worst I have ever seen. There is no damping whatsoever and the drawer runs into the stops at full speed on open and close - this ... ...Audio Digital - All three of the HDMI, Optical and Coax digital outputs render a 1 second dropout within 5 - 45 second of starting a new track on skip forward on every 3rd or 4th track. This is totally unacceptable. All Audio outputs - a very annoying click happen every time a track is skipped or fast forwarded - this is indicative of sloppy design practice on the audio output stages, both analogue and digital There is non-existent fade-in / fade ...

Harman Kardon DVD22 Multi Region DVD Player
Advantages: looks fantastic, beautiful picture (depending on connection), Disadvantages: expensive, reliability problems with brand
Having owned a Harman Kardon DVD22 since June 2005 I think that I am well placed to write a review on the unit; but before I talk about the DVD22 I feel that I must give a little background and therefore must go back 1 year, when I had the DVD21 (by the same company). I bought the DVD21 as an ex-demo model in-store for £150.00, within 6 months I had returned the unit as it was making excessive noise when playing disks, the shop that I purchased from ... ...### LOOKS ###
The Harman Kardon DVD22 is a very attractive looking DVD player; being Silver and Black with a small but bright neon blue power light on the left hand side (which turns orange when on standby) a central DVD Drawer and the display (which shows a counter) on the right hand side. The various DVD control buttons reside along the centre of the unit, on the border between the silver and the black colour coding on the unit. The colour scheme ...

Denons mid-ranged upscaled goodness
Advantages: excellent upscaling, wealth of play back features Disadvantages: feels cheap
...other reason. I bought this Denon 1930 a couple of years ago, before Blu Ray took a foot hold and before I ordered my PS3. I have got a reasonably large DVD collection and I wanted something good that could do the old discs justice. Denon have a certain way with these things. The aptly named Denon DVD 1930 is now discontinued. Like other Denon products it was one in a line of DVD players in its range, it was followed by the 1940 but now seems to ... ...still a shining example. The Denon range goes up into the 3000 series and then the flagship DVD-A1UD which would set you back the princely sum of £4,500! It looks like it would play EVERYTHING though. The 1930 is a good example of an upscaling DVD player. When it first arrived along the similarly designed AVR 1907, at my house, I was pleased to see the eye catching design. I must say at this point that I was rather disappointed with the weight of ...

An excellent piece of kit
Advantages: Fantastic quality picture, easy setup, great looking player, upscaling, value for money Disadvantages: None
This dvd player is a fantastic piece of kit which looks fantastic. The player was very simple to setup for my LCD HD Ready tv as all I had to do was plug the player into the power socket and plug the HDMI cable into the tv and the other end in the DVD player and all was ready to go.
The player is an upscaling player which means that your standard dvd's will be much brighter and crisper than when you play them on a standard dvd player. The player ... ...weighs no more than the standard players on the market and when I first switched this on and inserted my dvd I was impressed by how quiet running the player was as well as how bright the picture was (my previous player was a Bush with upscaling which I was impressed with but this blew that out of the water).
This is a fantastic piece of kit which is packed full of features as well as having the standard features work perfectly (fast forward, chapter ...

Plays any disc
Advantages: With multi-region feature Disadvantages: None
Philips DVP3310 When my old DVD player died, I wanted an immediate replacement for it since there are DVDs that I really love to watch over and over like Titanic, Somewhere in Time and Face-Off. My toddler also loves to watch ‘Tom and Jerry Show’ almost every morning. I’m not really that keen on DVD player’s technicalities so I really didn’t know what to look for in a DVD player. I was just used to plug, play and watch on my old DVD player. ... ...former player. Somebody told me that I needed to get a multi-region DVD player that plays all kinds of discs. I started my internet search on a multi-region DVD player and I ended up ordering Phillips DVP3310 and paid £45 for it. The delivery was quick. I ordered it Monday and it arrived Thursday morning. In the box *Phillips DVP3310 DVD player *2 x AAA Batteries *Remote Control *Warranty Leaflet *User Manual First try The first time ...
