Harman Kardon's DVD-49 is Disappointing

Advantages: Best of industry digital-to-analog conversion, especially DVD-A and SACD
Disadvantages: The audio interface is sub-standard for Harman Kardon

I purchased this, my first HK 3 weeks ago, being the DVD49. The internal Audio D/A of the DVD49 (analogue output) is the best I heard in any commercial playback device - but here the complements end. pretty average dvd player for a pretty average guy

Advantages: good matt black colour and good remote response
Disadvantages: just a run of the mill player

When I first saw this DVD player I thought that it was rather stylish looking, as it was completely black, with a matt finish, meaning that there will not be as many annoying fingerprints that cover it through average daily use. Average really

Advantages: Keep your current DVD collection, well priced
Disadvantages: Poor blacks sometimes

The Toshiba SD 480 upscales normal DVDs into a much better format that can be watched on a HD ready TV, it is an alternative to the blu-ray and HD dvd players out there, and allows people to keep their current DVD collections and still watch them all in HD. Nice, Slim and styling

Advantages: A lot of functions, HD TV, Dolby surround sound
Disadvantages: Need a good amplifier for the Dolby surround sound.
