DVD player that thinks it's a serious CD
Advantages: Near Audiophile quality crisp picture precise sound Disadvantages: Very few
...This one is different.
Marantz is well respected as a 'near audiophile' brand name - the emphasis is on quality rather than features, the DV-3100 is no exception.
I have a particular interest in baroque chamber music. Few DVD players can offer the precision and dynamic range of a digital audio track - the DV-3100 handles this admirably.
In terms of looks - the design theme is simple - black knobs, a single smoked 'window' which shows the basic ... ...Prominence is given to the Marantz trademark, and a host of logos depicting which video and audio standards the unit supports.
If I had one visual change to suggest - it would be to do away with the mock aluminium feet which show just under the front of the unit - very 1990's, and serving no function!
At around 470mm wide it matches my other hi-fi separates - of various brands, exactly.
The unit is now beginning to show it's age in terms of formats ...

Excellent DVD player if you can get hold of one
Advantages: Picture and sound quality Disadvantages: Disk tray
I was looking for a dedicated dvd player with no frills and that is exaclty what i got with the DV7010. These are hard to get hold of now as they have been discontinued, but I got mine from a specialist HIFI shop where they had the last one on special offer.
The build quality is excellent, and the disc load and seek times are very fast compared to those on my parents Sony DVD player. The on-screen menus are user freindly and can be used to change ... ...I bought the gold version (it was also made in black) and I think it looks great as well. Picture quality is fantastic and although it's hard to explain exactly why it is better than other DVD players I've used, but it just is. The sound quality is also out of the top drawer, in fact I'd say it's better than my stand alone Technics CD player in my stereo system. At weekends I hook this DVD player up to my home cinema projector and surround sound ...

Denons mid-ranged upscaled goodness
Advantages: excellent upscaling, wealth of play back features Disadvantages: feels cheap
...other reason. I bought this Denon 1930 a couple of years ago, before Blu Ray took a foot hold and before I ordered my PS3. I have got a reasonably large DVD collection and I wanted something good that could do the old discs justice. Denon have a certain way with these things. The aptly named Denon DVD 1930 is now discontinued. Like other Denon products it was one in a line of DVD players in its range, it was followed by the 1940 but now seems to ... ...still a shining example. The Denon range goes up into the 3000 series and then the flagship DVD-A1UD which would set you back the princely sum of £4,500! It looks like it would play EVERYTHING though. The 1930 is a good example of an upscaling DVD player. When it first arrived along the similarly designed AVR 1907, at my house, I was pleased to see the eye catching design. I must say at this point that I was rather disappointed with the weight of ...

An excellent piece of kit
Advantages: Fantastic quality picture, easy setup, great looking player, upscaling, value for money Disadvantages: None
This dvd player is a fantastic piece of kit which looks fantastic. The player was very simple to setup for my LCD HD Ready tv as all I had to do was plug the player into the power socket and plug the HDMI cable into the tv and the other end in the DVD player and all was ready to go.
The player is an upscaling player which means that your standard dvd's will be much brighter and crisper than when you play them on a standard dvd player. The player ... ...weighs no more than the standard players on the market and when I first switched this on and inserted my dvd I was impressed by how quiet running the player was as well as how bright the picture was (my previous player was a Bush with upscaling which I was impressed with but this blew that out of the water).
This is a fantastic piece of kit which is packed full of features as well as having the standard features work perfectly (fast forward, chapter ...

Plays any disc
Advantages: With multi-region feature Disadvantages: None
Philips DVP3310 When my old DVD player died, I wanted an immediate replacement for it since there are DVDs that I really love to watch over and over like Titanic, Somewhere in Time and Face-Off. My toddler also loves to watch ‘Tom and Jerry Show’ almost every morning. I’m not really that keen on DVD player’s technicalities so I really didn’t know what to look for in a DVD player. I was just used to plug, play and watch on my old DVD player. ... ...former player. Somebody told me that I needed to get a multi-region DVD player that plays all kinds of discs. I started my internet search on a multi-region DVD player and I ended up ordering Phillips DVP3310 and paid £45 for it. The delivery was quick. I ordered it Monday and it arrived Thursday morning. In the box *Phillips DVP3310 DVD player *2 x AAA Batteries *Remote Control *Warranty Leaflet *User Manual First try The first time ...
