Matsui solid as a rock
Review of Matsui VDVD500 by simond25

Advantages: Very light, good features for the price, above average picture and sound quality. Very reliable
Disadvantages: Cheap solution to the DVD/VCR, Does what is say on the tin

...CD Playback: Yes This Matsui product offers good quality at a very reasonable price. I have yet to be let down by a Matsui product It does all the basic functions easily enough, putting VHS tape in and DVD disc at the same time and then switching between the two. Selecting subtitle and using the disc menu are an absolute doddle. There are inputs on the front for an auxiliary port which I use to plug in my digital camcorder. The sound quality ...
...sound, switching from music channels to reality show to sport programs the sound is still crisp and clear. The one failing is that sometimes the actions sounds in dvd/vhs films are a lot louder than the speaking in the film. This DVD player can play a VHS American tape which is handy a feature. I have tested the Long PAL and Long play facilities and you can fit a substantial amount of video onto the tape. You cannot use both features you have to ... Read review

Multi region?!
Review of Sony DVP-NS 36 by k8_web

Advantages: divx compatible
Disadvantages: had to do a bit of research to enable multi region ability

I've been looking for a divx player for a while now, and wanted one with multi region capability also. I eventually bought this dvd player from amazon.co.uk, as it was clearly labelled 'multi region'. Reading the reviews on amazon, some said it was multi region straight out of the box. For me, when putting any other region dvd other than 2, it played in black and white. After a bit of research, and thinking I'd have to fork out more money to get ...
...is multi region, but my tv was not understanding the video format of the region 1 disc. A simple solution I discovered is simply to change the colour settings on the dvd menu (when there is no disc in it) to RGB. Having achieved this, I am now a very happy customer! All region discs now play in full colour, as do divx formats, CD-RW etc. On top of the function, the box is a sleek looking player. Very slim and very pretty. I got it for a fantastic ... hd-dvd get one while you can !!!!
Review of Toshiba HD-E 1 by colin_bradbury

Advantages: as good as blu-ray , extreamly cheap , bargins to be had everywhere
Disadvantages: no longer supported format

..., with the announcement that Toshiba is to withdraw from the hd race for the next format it leaves hd-dvd players in a very poor position in the market place , however do not let this put you off , there is already a great library off hd-dvd discs out there and as there is no region coding on the discs ,this means you can order via eBay direct from use for even more titles , of course the likelihood of new movies coming out on this format are very ...
...and the latest firmware via Toshiba brings it right unto date with picture and sound , if your savvy you can get one of these and a collection of discs for a fraction of the price of a blu-ray player and start enjoying high definition discs , the money you save get be put to one side to but a blu-ray / ps3 when they inevitably come down in price later this year ... VERY SLIM DVD PLAYER---GOOd CHOICE
Review of Samsung DVD-F1080 by 123ejv

Advantages: most popular multimedia formats, upconver, small Compact
Disadvantages: No display on unit

Small Compact, reads most format DVD, Upconver No display on unit (but its on screen if needed) "Overall Im happy with purchase. you cant go wrong with it. The remote is a bit small but works great. I have ordered an HDMI cable and cant wait to see how good the upconvertion is." plays the most popular multimedia formats like DivX, MP3, WMA, JPEG and MPEG-4 clips. Slim, Why have a huge dvd player when you know the guts only take up a small fraction ...
...One HDMI cable is so nice as well. DVDs look great on my 42"" 1080i LCD tv. But setup menu is REALLY slow to respond. No bundled HDMI cable, just a completely useless RCA cable.Weird buttons on the top. I wish they'd just have front buttons so I can stack stuff on it - but I guess it looks cooler. ... Read review

Advantages: Divx Playback ,Progressive Scan,HDMI Output,HD Upscalling,Good Picture,Solid Build,Stylish
Disadvantages: Remote control's resposne could been better

...and it has that solid samsung feeling.the remote is stylish and solid however the resposning is not the fastest I've seen.back to player's function;the DVD playback is smooth,it does produce rich colours and sharp picture.the key features of this player that makes it a winner in this price range are Progressive Scan,Divx Playback and HDMI output with 1080p HD Upscalling.you won't find many (if any!) DVD players under £60 having all this important ... Read review
