Let down by stuttering playback
Review of Toshiba SD-370 by jrwlynch

Advantages: Apart from the frequent freezes in playback, a good DVD player
Disadvantages: Infuriatingly frequent freeze-ups while playing disks.

Disappointing: this player had promise but a maddening fault. We ordered this player to partner a flatscreen TV, intending to use the upscaling feature to take full advantage of the panel's resolution. The first impression was very good: excellent picture, good sound, and all seemed well. It's a nice looking player (only flaw is a rather flimsy disk tray) that's easy to set up and get working. Unfortunately, on a variety of disks, the player demonstrated ...
...would freeze for anything from a moment to five seconds or so, like a really bad layer change. Not a problem with the disks (several tried, all OK in other players) but the player itself. Okay, so there's a problem with that particular player, so we return it. The replacement has the same fault but does it more frequently. And it's surprising how annoying those short freeze-ups can be. Maybe I was very unlucky and got the only two bad examples, ... Read review

hd-dvd get one while you can !!!!
Review of Toshiba HD-E 1 by colin_bradbury

Advantages: as good as blu-ray , extreamly cheap , bargins to be had everywhere
Disadvantages: no longer supported format

..., with the announcement that Toshiba is to withdraw from the hd race for the next format it leaves hd-dvd players in a very poor position in the market place , however do not let this put you off , there is already a great library off hd-dvd discs out there and as there is no region coding on the discs ,this means you can order via eBay direct from use for even more titles , of course the likelihood of new movies coming out on this format are very ...
...and the latest firmware via Toshiba brings it right unto date with picture and sound , if your savvy you can get one of these and a collection of discs for a fraction of the price of a blu-ray player and start enjoying high definition discs , the money you save get be put to one side to but a blu-ray / ps3 when they inevitably come down in price later this year ... Toshiba SD-260 DVD Player
Review of Toshiba SD-260 E by lilyellowfish

Advantages: Looks good, easy to use, good value for money
Disadvantages: No disc resume feature

...thing you notice with this Toshiba SD-260 DVD Player is that it looks good, it's silver, think and looks modern and stylish. The height is 43.8 mm, width is 421 mm and the depth is 260 mm and it weighs 2.3 kg, which is fairly light. On the front it has a tray on the left, which is hidden and on the right it has 6 buttons - eject, stop, play/pause, fast forward, rewind and power. When the power button is on it lights up blue. In the middle of the ...
...Box Contents: Toshiba SD260E DVD Player Remote control User guide Warranty information One problem with the DVD player is that it doesn't have a 'disc resume' feature. This means everytime you stop a disc and turn the player onto standby the disc loses its position and you have to scroll back to where you last watched up to when it comes to turning the machine back on, which can get quite annoying. Although a basic player, you don't need it ... Read review

New to DVD? This is for you!
Review of Toshiba SD 220 E by iancognito

Advantages: Great first time buy, sleek design, value for money, tons of features
Disadvantages: Fiddly remote, 1cm too wide for my corner unit!

For a long time I viewed the DVD market with scepticism, then came this mid-range budget player and my whole viewpoint changed. I was looking for a player that didn't cost the earth but would give me access to features that I couldn't get with VHS such Zoom modes, angle changes and the obvious improvements of both picture and sound quality. I was looking for the basics first and any extras as a bonus. As it turned out I was in luck with the SD220-E. ...
...itself was the sleek design of the unit. Whilst much of the player is silver, the front fascia is covered in the main by a satinised clear perspex-like strip that houses the basic function buttons of the machine. All of this is positioned below the CD tray and incorporates a crystal clear LCD display. This is dimmable via the remote control but to be honest it's an option I'd probably never think of using normally. After the aesthetically pleasing ... Read review
