Fourth time lucky.
Review of Sanyo DVDSX20 by
trumpsnuffler
Advantages: Extremely cheap.
Disadvantages: Appears easily breakable.
...was attracted to purchasing the Sanyo DVDSX20 by the same reason i expect everyone else was - its price. All i was looking for was a dvd player with multi-region playback so i could import films from the US before they were released in the UK, and the Sanyo DVDSX20 just so happened to be one of the cheapest on the market.
Firstly i should warn those contemplating on ordering it, it may take quite a while longer to come than expected. I had to send ... ...which you insert the dvd would not come out. Having done some research, it appears that this was a problem a lot of people encountered.
However, on the fourth time of trying, i received one in fine working condition.
I have been using it now for about a year and have no complaints about it.
There are only few downsides but they are only really minor:
1) The eject button on the actual dvd player is not a click button and so can be quite annoying ...

Don't Get In A Spin, Buy This!!
Review of Sanyo DVDSL40 by
iiyama1000
Advantages: Slimline, Midi Sized Player
Disadvantages: At This Price, None That I Can think Of.
My wife bought this player from a mail order club for sixty four
pounds, although it can be obtained for just under sixty pounds on average. Her reason for buying was to have a DVD player in
the bedroom.
Upon arrival, i opened the box to discover the machine, a remote control, a pair of batteries for the remote, a set of
audio video leads and a quite small but comprehensive
instruction manual.
The machine itself is a nice small size, being ... ...5cms.) high. It is quite an
attractive machine, with a silvery grey case and a black
fascia with silver control buttons.
All of the usual features of a DVD player are there, including
Dolby digital decoder.
On the rear panel are Optical digital and coaxial digital outputs
and an audio/video output for which the cables are supplied.
There is also a scart socket, but no scart lead is included.
As for playback, i found this to be a very competant ...

Small and very stylish
Review of Sanyo DVD SL 20 by
olliejaylewis
Advantages: Slim and small, looks stylish and good
Disadvantages: OSD looks rubbish and very basic
Having worked for Sanyo for the last 2 years, i first saw the prototype of this DVD player about a year ago. Then it was a poor excuse for a DVD player, with quite clearly more effort placed on size rather than features and performance.
Iam happy to say its come along way since then, not only being very slim line and compact, but also with all the usual features that you would expect from a DVD player. Its performance is very good, and it handles ... ...CD (SVCD) but it may have been because my sample was a very early release player.
Nevertheless, this is one stylish and great looking player, with good performance and not bad price wise if you shop around. Sanyo products are very well manufactured and this player is no exception! ...

cheap and cheerfull
Review of Toshiba SD-170 by
prosumer
Advantages: good sound, good picture
Disadvantages: remotes rubish. no s-video
This was my previous DVD player that I Had bought to replace my SD 140 that was getting a bit buggy. it`s a nice small cheap player that been a brand name is step up from the £20 chepo players out there.
It`s main selling point besides the make is that it offers progressive scan witch means that if you buy some "component" cables and set the player up accordingly you will get the best quality picture that standard definition can supply (providing ... ...LCD`s do)
The picture is fairly good with vivid yet natural colours and movement is quite fluid. the main down side is that the picture is`t super sharp but then again this is a budget player so fair do`s
The sound is very good for the price in fact I used the player as a backup CD player for my denon hi fi when it wouldn't play ball on some of my CD`s! The remote is a bit dinky and a bit cluttered but the player it`s self is layed out well and ...

I got this for an Amazing £99 (the silver model is £79)witch is good considering It used to cost a penny shy of £200!. forget getting a cheap Upscaling Samsung or Toshiba this is the real deal! the sound is great and it will make a respectable CD player in its own right especially as it can play SACD`s and DVD audio disks. and the Picture though HDMI is great! the only criticism is that the can be some Jagges due to it been an older player. the remote ...
