A budget DVD player that is worth a look
Review of Sony DVP-NS 29 by snoozle

Advantages: Excellent value for money,
Disadvantages: doesn't play DIV X

...the first disc in the Sony was how sharp the picture was. I don't have a huge HD ready TV, just a 28" widescreen at the cheaper end of the market, but the picture looks very impressive. To me it looks like the contrast & sharpness are naturally set quite high but I must point out this is an assumption on my part. You can alter the picture quality using either 5 pre set options, or your own custom pre sets, altough there is only one available pre ...
...different DVD's. As far as I'm concerned this is no real problem. The sound quality is acceptable, not exceptional. I live in a flat, so cannot really have the sound too high without really annoying the neighbours. You can play through the TV, and again, there is a selection of different settings for virtual sorround settings to make your 2 speaker tv sound like it has surround sound. To be honest it's not that effective. I have a seperate Dolby ... Read review

Seemingly good quality
Review of Sony DVP-NS 29 by sunmeilan

Advantages: Reasonable price, neat
Disadvantages: Doesn't flash up the length of the DVD to begin with

...different make and model for just £17.99 (again, I think that was a sale price), but it didn't look as neat as the Sony and as mentioned before, I'm a bit suspicious of the quality if it's too cheap. Fingers crossed, the extra £20 I paid will be worth it. ... Read review

Does Anyone Still Use Video's?
Review of Sony SLV-D 950 by RelaxToTheMax

Advantages: Free's Up Lots Of Space
Disadvantages: A Bit Bulky

...I have now had the Sony SLV-D 950 for almost two years, I bought it because i did not have a DVD player and wanted to get one, but at the same time i did not want to lose my collection of videos. After searching around numerous stores like Currys e.t.c. i came across this model i didn't really understand what the salesman was telling me, all i understood was that you could play DVD's, watch videos along with recording on videos. So after little deliberation ...
...my needs (simply just playing DVD's and videos without any problems). Anyway they were my reasons for buying this model, here are my views of the advantages and disadvantages of this piece of equipment. The Advantages: 1. The main advantage with this DVD/Video combi is that it saves alot of room around your T.V. because you do not need to have two different machines (each taking up a fair bit of space) on the shelf(s) beneath your T.V. This could ... Read review

DVPNS30
Review of Sony DVPNS30 by deaders

Advantages: excellent pict. quality, rear sound effect, excellent value for £
Disadvantages: No scart cable included

I bought this DVD player for £50 off Amazon and am very happy with it. I needed a DVD player that was relatively easy to set up, had good picture quality, played mp3's and was region-free. For £50, I don't believe that you could find a better quality player than this one. Because it is so small in size, it has excellent portability, i.e. I can easily take it round a friend's house without any problems. The only gripe that I have is that the player ... Read review

Sleek, straightforward, recommended player
Review of Sony DVP-NS 29 by abbichicken

Advantages: Plays all media files perfectly, easy setup, attractive finish
Disadvantages: R2 only, lacking in scart lead

...I ended up with the Sony DVP-NS 29 because it was a good price, a good colour, very flat, and priced at £49.99 in the catalogue, but then we noticed when looking it up on the little in-store checking thing, that it had been reduced to £34.99 as it was the last one. £15 off? Must be good! Logic and I are quite separate sometimes. Anyway, we bought it cheerfully, and ran off home to set it up. Now, in the Argos catalogue, and on the box, this item ...
...fancy, like, just a straightforward Sony logo that bounces merrily about the place whilst you pause what you're watching to make a cup of tea, or whatever, nice feature, and that. The thing I like most about it, is that it just works! Perfectly, perfectly so, touch wood. It looks good, plays well, means I can watch all kinds of stuff the PS2 wasn't capable of playing. I can't really compare with other DVD players as I've not had one, although I do ... Read review
