The answer to watching files via USB on a TV - The Toshiba SD-290
Advantages: USB port Disadvantages: Remote is a little small
...a search i found the Toshiba SD-290.
It is a neat compact unit but still stylish at the same time.
Setup could not be easier just plug in the power and scart and done. The remote is a bit small and therefore there is a habit of hitting the wrong button by accident.
DVD playback is excellent on all formats and it does not take ages to identify the format you have loaded.
The key for me though is the USB port, just plug in your USB memory stick ...

WOW!! The best upscaling DVD player bar non!!!!
Advantages: Good quality dvd's like HD Disadvantages: None
...have recently purchased the new Toshiba 42ZV555DB LCD TV which upscales SD signals to near HD quality. I was a bit sceptical but the difference is unbelievable. The pictures are so sharp. High quality bitrate signals like the BBC news look like the presenter is 3D!! That's on normal Freeview aswell!!
As I am always lookin for the best picture possible I thought I would give Toshiba's new XDE 500 DVD player a go, as the new TV lived up to claims. ... ...on them too. I am going to get a copy of Meet The Robinsons on DVD and compare it to my Bluray copy as that is the benchmark on Bluray in my opinion.
Anyway thatis my opinion on the Toshiba XDE500 dvd player. £97 well spent at John Lewis. ...

Average really
Advantages: Keep your current DVD collection, well priced Disadvantages: Poor blacks sometimes
The Toshiba SD 480 upscales normal DVDs into a much better format that can be watched on a HD ready TV, it is an alternative to the blu-ray and HD dvd players out there, and allows people to keep their current DVD collections and still watch them all in HD. The quality of the player is very good, it plays many movies in a much better quality, the only trouble that I have had so far has been with blacks on the player, which often come out in a fuzzy ... ...picture quality of the player, otherwise everything about the quality is very good, and I have been pleased with the quality. The HD output means that DVDs can be played and upscaled on very big HD ready tvs in the highest quality possible, this is a massive bonus and I have really enjoyed being able to use all of my DVDs in this way, it makes the experience more enjoyable. The price is the best feature here though, for about £50, you could get your ...

Upscaled Girl, she's been living in her Upscaled World
Advantages: Very cheap way to semi-upgrade, great quality picture, easy setup, good options Disadvantages: Flimsy disc tray, slightly awkward dimensions may be a problem to some, not True HD
...can be connected to a Toshiba LCD TV and use the technology they have to control the DVD through the TV remote, but as I've mentioned my TV is LG so I can't comment on how well this works. If you want more functionality from your device there's a similar model (around £10 more) that plays MP3, JPG, DivX etc., but as I have my 360 I didn't feel the need to opt for this. Whilst this isn't true HD - and you can tell - at most reasonable distances you'd ... ...difference between this and Full HD content. If you care that much you're not likely to settle for upscaling anyway. Overall, if you want to get more out of your HDTV but are reluctant to upgrade to an entirely new technology (that may well be defunct in a few more years anyway), this is a fantastically economical way of doing so. If you've spent the money to get a full 1080p set anyway you probably have the money to afford the Bluray player a set ...
