Still going.
Advantages: slimline, multiregion Disadvantages: no DivX playback
...of place in amongst modern tech. After having had this product for so long, I doubt it's even on the market anymore, but I thought I would review anyway. I had never heard of Yamada before I bought this player, but I would definitely consider buying their products again. ...

Highly recommended player
Advantages: Plays most things you throw @ it, most pc files. OGM, & Sub titled Divx Files also Disadvantages: None found so far
For some reason it seems these are no so available anymore however when they were the average price was around 40 - £45 which was not so bad for a multi region, slim line, divx dvd player which would play most computer files without fault. I usually use the most highest quality media & hardware within reasonable cost & did not find anything to majorly complain about. If anything you might have a particular issue with a particular format or file, ... ...has to be expected. I have had no major issues other than minor skips with some files, which didnt cause any problems & perhaps the odd need to reset by means of power off via remote and on again when using particular ogg media files. Accepts all the media i throw at it, any type of cd/dvd i had worked perfectly, both originals and backups of different formats.
At this price what else can i say but go for it, i doubt you'll regret it. ...

Not well known but versatile multi format player
Advantages: Cheap, Good picture, reliable, plays a good array of formats Disadvantages: weak loading tray, poor sound, freezing during play
...gone into liqudation). The Yamada DVX 6600 is a versatile player being able to cope with a vast array of formats from standard CD, VCD & DVD through to the far more compressed AVI, Divx, Xvid, MPEG4 and JPEG picture discs to name a few. it does come with one or two little downsides. Random freezing is quite common when playing compressed discs and can sometimes 'forget' what it's doing. A couple of times pausing a film meant it started playing from ... ...load and play films. Although it carries Dolby Digital and DTS stamps, the sound is very basic, if you wanted a real cinema sound you'd have to opt for a separate decoder for decent all round noise. Firmware upgrades are virtually non-existent and hard to find. The disc tray is quite thin and floppy, I have feared for it breaking on a few occasions when my daughter has loaded a film. But none-the-less it has lasted longer than other high end players ...

Sometimes small is beautiful with DVD players
Advantages: Size, price, performance, quality Disadvantages: little green light
...a friend who recommended the Yamada 2600 dvd player, he said he had purchased one over a year ago and was well pleased with his. I had purchased a cheapy player from Asda (pacific model) not too long back but the picture kept breaking up because the disk kept sticking. This is a common fault with cheap players, the mechanism is just no good and its filled with cheap components. Anyway Asda gave me my money back with their no quibble guarantee and ... ...where I spend most of my time and money these days!!!!. I could not believe the technical specifications -

my review of yamada 5520
Advantages: looks good, plays all dvd types Disadvantages: sometimes slow
General
I have had this DVD player for around 3 years now, I got it as a Christmas present from my dad. I don't think it cost too much, only around £40 and that was 3 years ago, probably a lot cheaper now. I found it very easy to setup you simply attach the scart lead to the back of the DVD player and then to the TV. Obviously put the plug in. As soon as I turned the power on the DVD player my TV automatically went to AV and it was ready to use ... ...simply press the power button and it goes straight back to the TV. Its very women proof. Look
It is a really nice looking DVD player, its nice and slim, silver in colour and has green display lights. On the actual DVD player you have limited buttons (because you're supposed to use the remote for doing most things). It has a power button on the left of it. Then under the disk tray it has play, stop, pause and then the skip chapter buttons.
