DVD recorder to avoid
Review of Samsung DVD-SH855M by kellybayliss

Advantages: Cheap, small
Disadvantages: Need to eb there to amke sure it records

i am happy to say i no longer use this product. I got this DVD recorder for only £190 which is a really good deal so i thought. I got it home and attempted to set it up but i just could not get on with it at all. i read and re read the instructions but i still could not do it. I got a freind to set it all up and then gave it a second try. I did manage to record on it twice but both times it recorded the wrong thing at the wrong time and most times ...
...time i could record was if i there to check it and that was pointless. when i did manage to record things the recording would only play some of it and would sometimes freeze or not play at all which again was annoying. i did call the helpline but they are not very helpfull at all ... This Year's Top Budget Model
Review of Samsung DVD-SH853M by sghawken

Advantages: Great series of facilities
Disadvantages: Attracts dust, no time remaining, no HDNI

...the success of last year's Samsung DVD recorder I again chose to stick with the brand again. During last year having fought it off for a few years silver finally made way for black, as black had for silver five years prior; I am of course talking about casings. The Samsung DVD-SH 853 comes completely in black with a nice neon blue power button. I reach my first stumbling point, the new casing is a beautiful shiny black and as a result it attracts ...
...With this year's Samsung model, rather like the one I purchased last year the recorder will burn images regardless of the disc speed. Until recently DVD recorders would only record on discs that clearly indicated X1, those discs that said X16 or X32 would only really work in PC's. The Samsung models rather capably do both. There are recording advancements this year too, now you can record on rewritable discs, or on RAM discs. On a Rewritable disc ... Read review

LITEON DD-A500GX DVD RECORDER
Review of Liteon DD-A 500 GX by lona

Advantages: Nice Appearance
Disadvantages: No menu and quite difficult to set up

...occasionally. I looked up liteon website and found there was firmware to correct this problem, which I downloaded, followed the correct procedure but it made no difference. I thought perhaps it was the discs I was using but after playing them on my son's player there was no fault with the discs, which were high quality discs. Another big minus is there is no menu when a disc is inserted so. Disc plays automatically and you have to scroll through ... Read review

Easy to use, good value for money
Review of Ellion DVR-950 S by lynncuthbert

Advantages: Slim line, attractive design
Disadvantages: Can skip frames even on highest quality

If you're just looking for a simple DVD recorder to record programmes or films and watch them back later on, so you don't miss your favourite programmes, you can't really go wrong with this. It's not too high tech and it's easy to install, especially if you are using SCART leads. You can connect toyour freeview/cable/digital box and record from there, you just have to make sure you've got it on the right channel and that you need to switch off your ...
...does mean that you can't really use the time shift function however. It looks good too, which always nice. It's not a clunky piece of machinery taking up space. I've not had any major problems with my recorder yet (had it a couple of months) and any issues I've had with it, I've been able to work out myself what went wrong, so all in all, I'd be happy to recommend it. ... The Sony 'RDR-GXD360
Review of Sony RDR-GXD360 by womblebatman

Advantages: simple to set up and use, great recording quality
Disadvantages: slower than a drunk snail, no HDMI

I recently aquired a Sony DVD recorder (RDR-GXD360). The Sony has freeview built in and a good reputation for audio visual quality. Set up was easy, I used the smart link connection between DVD and TV which means you can operate alot of the TV functions by the DVD remote which saves on fiddling around with two handsets. There's no hard drive but you can record onto most DVD media except dual-layered DVD-R and DVD-RAM discs. It has a number of recording ...
...of anonying traits with the Sony however. The first being how long it takes to load a disc and then to shut down, it's very slow and seems to make lots of noise doing it, the cooling fan makes a noise most of the time There's also the fact that it has no HDMI connection. I recently brought a LCD 'HDMI' TV so I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't use that feature. In light of the present advances in technology the Sony appears a bit dated, obviously ...
